JOB DESCRIPTION
Rep. Becca Balint (VT-AL), Vice Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, is hiring an experienced, innovative, and creative Communications Director to lead a bold messaging strategy for her official House office in Washington, D.C.
Candidates should have exceptional writing and organizational skills, be detail oriented, have sharp political instincts, and be able to steer an aggressive communications plan. The Communications Director plays a key leadership role in the office, working closely with the Member, Chief of Staff, and other senior staff to execute on strategic goals, keep Vermonters informed, and strengthen the Congresswoman’s voice and presence as a progressive leader. This person should be comfortable taking risks and trying new methods. This role reports to the Chief of Staff.
The annual salary for this role is $80,000-$95,000. This is not an entry level position. A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant Capitol Hill, administration, or campaign communication experience strongly preferred. Vermont ties are a plus. This is a senior leadership position that is full time with federal benefits, including student loan repayment program (if eligible), and salary commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Working with the Chief of Staff, Legislative Director and State Director to execute on Congresswoman’s strategic goals;

Managing and mentoring a communications team with a learning culture;

Developing and executing the office’s communications goals including national, state, and local press, messaging, events, and digital;

Working directly with the Congresswoman to prepare and staff her for interviews, speeches, press conferences, public events, town halls, etc;

Pitching creative ideas for the Congresswoman to grow her platform and national presence and create disciplined progressive message;

Drafting written materials including press statements, quotes, remarks, op-eds, press releases and advisories, and talking points;

Oversee digital communications program including the mass communications plan of digital ads, SMS program, mailers and more;

Working collaboratively with the State Office to ensure strong local media coverage, develop digital content, and to collaborate on outreach events;

Collaborating with the legislative team on writing and editing dynamic committee remarks and developing creative press plans for policy rollouts;

Serving as primary spokesperson for the Congresswoman in local and national press.
