JOB DESCRIPTION

Overview of Campaign: Mark Totten grew up in Kalamazoo, where he lives today. His mom was a first-grade teacher and single parent; his dad was a long-distance truck driver. He began his legal career at the U.S. Department of Justice. From 2019-22 he served as Chief Legal Counsel to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, where he led the Governor’s effort to protect the 2020 election and defend reproductive freedom. From 2022-25, Mark was appointed by President Biden to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, representing 49 counties, including the Upper Peninsula and the western half of the Lower Peninsula. There he protected children from predators, seniors from fraud, democracy from public corruption, and vulnerable communities from hate crimes. He launched his campaign for Michigan Attorney General on April 18, 2025 and has traveled to nearly every county in Michigan to connect with voters, party activists, labor leaders, and others. The Michigan Democratic Party will endorse a candidate for attorney general at an April 19, 2026 convention.

Responsibilities: The Field Organizer will work with the Campaign Manager to implement the campaign’s plan to persuade, identify and turn out delegates at the April 19, 2026 convention. They will also manage the campaign’s email program and attend events with the candidate. This position will report directly to the Campaign Manager.

Skills and Experience: Applicants must be committed to be part of a winning campaign through November 2026 and have: (1) Campaign field experience, including internships; (2) Strong inter-personal communication skills; (3) demonstrated organizational abilities; (4) basic computer, Excel, NGP/VAN, and social media skills; (5) a safe driving record and access to dependable transportation; and (6) a strong work-ethic and willingness to work campaign hours.
