JOB DESCRIPTION

Harris County Attorney and Democratic candidate for Congress Christian Menefee seeks a Field Director for a congressional runoff campaign in the Houston area. Christian Menefee is the leading candidate after one round of voting and now faces a highly competitive runoff election.

The Field Director will be responsible for overseeing the campaign’s direct voter contact program, including a team of organizers, interns, paid canvassers, and community stakeholders. The position runs through the March 3 Democratic primary and must be completed in person in Houston, TX.

The Field Director will be a local face of the campaign to both voters and volunteers. We are looking for a strong leader who is passionate about voter contact, both in traditional and creative ways - from mobilizing communities and relational organizing, to phone and text banks, to traditional canvassing.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute an aggressive field plan, in coordination with the campaign manager and senior advisor, that maximizes voter outreach within the campaign’s budget

  • Implement a voter contact plan, focusing on ID collection, managing IDs, and GOTV.

  • Develop and manage a volunteer recruitment and retention program that includes weekly blockwalks, textbanks, and phonebanks that increase in frequency as the election approaches

  • Hire, train, and manage a team of 3-5 field organizers

  • Coordinate volunteer events that include but are not limited to phonebanks, textbanks, and in-person canvassing

  • Assist with supervising 2 teams of paid canvassers, ensuring that paid canvassing is complementary to volunteer canvassing

  • Assist with supervising a team of neighborhood captains, ensuring that the campaign is visible at relevant community events throughout the district

  • Work with the political team to plan meet & greets and house parties

  • This position will report to the Campaign Manager, with heavy consultation with the Senior Advisor, and serve as an integral member of the campaign team

  • Work with the field team to manage a team of roughly 10 interns

Required Qualifications

  • 2 or more cycles of campaign field experience

  • Advanced proficiency in VAN, especially list creation and turf cutting

  • Experience managing volunteers

  • Knowledge of peer-to-peer texting tools and relational organizing

  • Experience developing, training, and empowering volunteers and volunteer leaders

  • Highly organized with an ability to manage multiple ongoing projects

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to self-start

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Commitment to progressive values inside the workplace and out

  • This job is located in Houston, TX. Applicants must be comfortable working in-person with the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends

“Nice to Have” Qualifications

  • Experience managing staff and/or interns

  • Experience planning and executing field events

  • Experience working for Democratic campaigns in Houston
