ABOUT THIS POSITION
A key member of our leadership team, the Director of Operations will oversee the day-to-day operations of Square One, ensuring our programs, internal systems, finances, HR, and technology run smoothly and efficiently. This role is central to keeping the organization well-organized and compliant, and supporting our growing team to do their best work. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in Democratic campaigns, electoral politics or related non-profit operations work, including experience managing legal and compliance operational needs in an organization with multiple legal entities. The Director of Operations reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the leadership team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Operations

Collaborate with team members on program operations across Square One entities, serving as a thought leader and operational advisor across the organization’s political, educational, and grant-making arms

Work with team to ensure operational systems and tracking are kept up to date

Collaborate with team members to shape and execute marketing, social media and branding materials
Finance & Compliance

Manage annual budgeting process and track spending throughout the year

Oversee cash flow reporting in coordination with our compliance firm

Work with fundraising team to set goals and track progress

Oversee and approve invoices, expensing, and payroll

Implement day-to-day legal and compliance requirements across multiple Square One entities in coordination with outside compliance and legal teams
Human Resources & Hiring

Manage hiring logistics (posting jobs, applicant tracking, communications)

Oversee onboarding, employee paperwork, and HR policies
-
Work with benefits vendors to administer employee health insurance and other benefits

Maintain employee handbook and organizational policies
Technology & Systems

Manage Google Workspace accounts and file systems, as well as digital tools like ActBlue, NGP VAN, Numero, etc.

Oversee Square One’s website updates

Support staff with technology needs and tech vendor coordination
Operations & Administration

Support fundraising operations, including Square One’s digital program, donation logistics, compliance, online fundraising platforms, events and more

Oversee organization-wide return on investment across fundraising programs, political programs and beyond in coordination with the ED and department heads

Maintain organizational calendars, policies, and internal documentation

Keep operations and administrative systems up to date and running efficiently
Requirements
-
5+ years of experience in nonprofit, campaign, or related organizational operations

Strong project management skills and attention to detail

Comfort managing budgets, HR systems, and other internal processes

Experience managing legal and compliance operations, ideally for a multi-entity organization

Tech-savvy and resourceful — comfortable learning new tools and troubleshooting

Collaborative, solutions-oriented, and able to keep multiple projects on track

Location: We are open to remote applicants anywhere in the country
Salary Range: $80,000 - $120,000
