JOB DESCRIPTION

Project 68 (P68) is a culture-first civic organization focused on increasing civic participation among politically disengaged and rightfully cynical Black audiences, particularly Gen Z and Millennials. We operate at the intersection of culture and civic life, partnering with creators, cultural influencers, and state/local partners to make civic information real, relevant, and culturally grounded.

We are seeking a ** Deputy Executive Director (DED)** to serve as the Executive Director’s primary partner and lead strategic, operational, and managerial functions across the organization. This role combines high-level leadership with hands-on execution, overseeing internal operations, supervising senior staff, driving program development, supporting fundraising efforts, and strengthening partnerships across the civic and cultural ecosystem. This is a full-time, remote position with occasional travel and schedule flexibility for events, activations, and cross-team collaboration.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Operations

  • Partner with the Executive Director to implement organizational strategy and annual goals.

  • Translate strategic vision into actionable plans with clear deliverables and metrics.

  • Lead internal management processes across programs, communications, and development.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, planning, budgeting, and reporting.

  • Represent P68 in high-level external meetings and coalition spaces.

Program Oversight & Innovation

  • Lead all programmatic initiatives to ensure alignment with P68’s mission and cultural strategy.

  • Develop and refine program concepts for impactful civic and cultural campaigns.

  • Oversee logistics for events, influencer activations, campus initiatives, and community programming.

  • Ensure programs meet deliverables, incorporate community feedback, and demonstrate measurable outcomes.

People, Culture & Team Development

  • Supervise and mentor department leads, managers, and key staff.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, values-driven organizational culture.

  • Lead internal communications, recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.

Partnerships & External Relations

  • Strengthen relationships with funders, partner organizations, and cultural influencers.

  • Support strategic partnerships that expand P68’s reach, visibility, and impact.

Fundraising & Financial Management

  • Work with the Executive Director and Finance team on annual budgets.

  • Contribute to fundraising strategy, proposals, funder relationships, and grant compliance.

  • Ensure responsible resource allocation and organizational accountability.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of leadership experience in nonprofit, advocacy, organizing, or media sectors.

  • Minimum 3 years in senior management or supervisory roles.

  • Strong understanding of civic engagement, media ecosystems, and culture-based organizing.

  • Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale programs.

  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, partnership development, and operational management.

Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, and problem-solving abilities.

  • High attention to detail and comfort with deadlines.

  • Deep cultural competence and commitment to racial equity and social justice.

  • Collaborative mindset, openness to feedback, and a continuous-learning orientation.

Additional Details

  • Remote work with occasional travel.

  • Some nights/weekends required for events.

  • Benefits include health, life, disability insurance, PTO, and a flexible, supportive environment.
