About Education Truth Project

Education Truth Project (ETP) is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit working to dissolve misinformation, hate, and lack of access in public education. We build grassroots power to elect pro-education leaders. We organize through state chapters, mobilize volunteers, and run public campaigns to ensure all children have access to quality, inclusive education.

We are at an exciting growth stage and seek a consulting partner to help design and launch our fundraising infrastructure.

Scope of Work

The Development & Strategy Consultant will:

  • Fundraising Strategy

  • Develop a 12-month fundraising plan prioritizing small-dollar donor growth, recurring giving, and institutional progressive funding sources compatible with a 501(c)(4).

  • Infrastructure & Systems

  • Set up donor management tools (CRM, ActBlue, or similar platforms).

  • Draft core donor communications (welcome emails, campaign templates, fundraising messaging).

  • Donor & Funder Outreach

  • Identify and cultivate relationships with aligned funders, collaboratives, and donors.

  • Advise on launching small-donor digital campaigns and/or fundraising events.

  • Capacity Building

  • Train staff/volunteers on fundraising best practices.

  • Provide recommendations for transitioning from consultant-led fundraising to staff-led development team.

  • Metrics & Reporting

  • Establish benchmarks and reporting templates for Board and leadership.

Deliverables (first 6 months)

  • Written fundraising strategy and calendar.

  • Set up of at least one donor management platform.

  • Launch of at least one small-donor fundraising campaign.

  • Pipeline of at least 10 prospective institutional funders/donors identified and initial outreach made.

  • Monthly reporting on progress toward fundraising goals.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in nonprofit or political (c)(4) fundraising, with emphasis on small-donor and movement-building models.

  • Strong knowledge of digital fundraising tools and donor databases.

  • Excellent communication and messaging skills, especially for progressive audiences.

  • Experience working with start-up organizations or campaigns a plus.

  • Commitment to Education Truth Project’s mission and values.

Contract Structure & Compensation

  • Duration: Initial 6-month contract with potential extension.

  • Compensation: Negotiable; preference for milestone-based structure (e.g., flat monthly retainer with bonuses tied to successful campaign launches, donor targets, or revenue benchmarks).

  • Start Date: Flexible, but ideally within the next 1–2 months.
