About PA Stands Up

PA Stands Up is an independent, multiracial political organization by and for the many, with thousands of dues-paying members dedicated to winning a Pennsylvania that works for all of us. We are working people living across Pennsylvania’s cities, towns and rural areas. Our 5 chapters in 8 counties build grassroots leadership, fight for policies that work for working people, and elect candidates who represent our values. Job Description

This full-time salaried position will oversee PA Stands Up’s data and organizing tool systems, and develop and operationalize a rigorous integration of data and community organizing. This position will provide training and technical support to staff, member teams and local chapters. This will include overseeing tools related to canvassing, member engagement, and fundraising. The Data Manager will develop and oversee data management and visualization systems that help PASU’s organizers, strategists, and members visualize and learn from data collected through community organizing work.

The ideal candidate is highly motivated to build and develop new leaders, and to win power for poor and working people. They are adept at data management and systems, and able to analyze and explain data to others who may be less familiar with data-informed approaches. They are curious about the use of data in organizing, and comfortable with diagnosing organizing challenges and opportunities through the use of data.

The ideal candidate is someone who is highly motivated to build a powerful multiracial base that wins changes for working-class people across Pennsylvania. They have experience working with election or organizing data, are independent workers, have strong attention to detail, strong communication skills, and are mission aligned.

PA Stands Up is a union shop, this position is within the union’s bargaining unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Database Management

  • Administer VAN and chapter Every Action committees, configuring survey questions, activist codes etc. to make sure that member, volunteer and voter contract data is captured and accessible by the organizing team;

  • Manage VAN and EA user and security settings; provide technical assistance; and monitor the use of the system to ensure compliance with state and national policies;

  • Create, maintain, and assess EveryAction automations for emails, contributions, membership, etc.;

  • Manage API Keys with organizing tech platforms and other tools

  • Build data syncs across various voter contact, member engagement and other tools with our EveryAction instance;

  • Manage EveryAction shared folders & ensuring appropriate access for staff and members;

  • Manage bulk uploads of text and call data as needed;

  • Clean existing data sets using SQL coding;

  • Administer PA Stands Up’s TMC Civis instance – write and modify code to pull lists and analyse data out of BigQuery using SQL;

  • Manage existing dashboards outside of EveryAction that currently track donor information and organizer metrics;

  • Build additional dashboards as needed;

  • Manage vendor and partner organization relationships which pertain to our data flows (Bluelink, TMC Civis, EveryAction etc.), and regularly audit data coming in from syncing to maintain data quality

  • Find creative solutions for the organization’s data needs, define metrics, review program efficacy, and set up pipelines and best practices for all departments;

  • Develop quality control processes to ensure data integrity;

  • Respond to data requests from staff quickly and efficiently

Training

  • Train and support staff on data/organizing tools throughout the year and during onboarding of new staff;

  • Train local chapters to use Every Action and manage member data, and provide technical assistance to local chapters, as needed;

  • Ensure that trainings are kept up to date as needs grow and change

Data Reporting & Analytics

  • Universe creation & turf cutting for canvassing, phone banking, text banking utilizing internal database as well as Voter File data;

  • Create universes for priority municipal races, issue canvasses and priority legislative campaigns;

  • Ensure quality targeting and list size to maximize direct contact and engagement;

  • Support organizing department with data analysis of recruitment, dues, organizing and direct voter contact performance;

  • Support collection of analytics around email performance, action rates, and engagement;

  • Analyze data for funder reports and presentations, research projects, donor communications, and other external communications as needed;

  • Visualize voting data to make a better case for support for funders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-4 years work experience in data management

  • At least one full political cycle working in data leadership for a campaign or advocacy group

  • Experience in electoral, union or community organizing

  • Experience in and understanding of how data is used in electoral, union or community organizing

  • Expertise running data programs for volunteer and paid field canvass operations including Voter Activation Network (VAN) and the voter file

  • Experience creating and delivering trainings for users and the ability to train and communicate technical concepts with non-technical people across lines of difference.

  • Ability to communicate complicated data and analytics reports, systems and process with a cross section of stakeholders including those with less data expertise

  • Deep understanding of how data intersects with field, organizing, development and communications

  • Experience building reports and data visualization (Tableau, Periscope, Excel, Looker studio, etc.) that identify important trends and presenting results to key stakeholders a plus

  • Experience operating in a high paced, metrics based environment

  • Demonstrated ethical conduct when handling information data

  • Strong time management, project management, and organization skills

  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve data issues

  • Interpersonal communication, both verbal and written, and an ability to work in teams

  • A demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and social justice

  • Knowledge of SQL required

  • Knowledge of Python a plus

LOCATION & OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate lives in the Lehigh Valley, Berks County, Lancaster County, Northeast PA, Harrisburg area, or the Philadelphia area. Candidates should have a cell phone plan, home internet and access to transportation for travel.

This is a full-time permanent position.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary for this position is $61,140.80 with employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; access to a 401(K) with employer match; and generous paid time off.
