The Communications Director will report to the Campaign Manager and will work closely with campaign leadership and the candidate to drive the campaign’s earned media strategy and act as an on-the-record spokesperson for the campaign. The ideal candidate will have multiple cycles of on-the-record experience, strong writing and interpersonal skills, and previous management experience.
Key Responsibilities:

Develop and execute a robust communications plan for the cycle

Build strong relationships with reporters at the national, statewide, and local level

Oversee all communications materials, including press releases, talking points, reporter backgrounders, op-eds, and other content

Work closely with the candidate, Campaign Manager, and consulting team to shape the campaign’s overall communications strategy

Develop earned media tactics, ideas, and pitches to drive the campaign message

Prepare and staff the candidate for media interviews and events

Serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the campaign

Manage other members of the communications team
Qualifications:
-
At least two to three cycles of campaign communications experience

Experience on-the-record and building strong relationships with reporters

Experience developing and implementing communications strategies and plans

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline

Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends, as the campaign schedule demands

Kansas ties or experience is a plus, but not necessary
