JOB DESCRIPTION

Description:

Under the supervision of the Campaign Manager/Candidate, the Communications Director is responsible for developing and executing the overall external messaging for Oliver Ma’s Lieutenant Governor race. The Communications Director will also serve as the campaign’s press secretary and work on any press releases, media inquiries, and media outreach. The ideal candidate is a strong writer and fast-moving communicator with experience in political campaigns or public affairs.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications plan aligned with campaign goals and timeline

  • Shape and maintain the campaign’s core narrative, messaging framework, and talking points

  • Ensure message discipline and consistency across field, fundraising, digital, and policy teams

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all media inquiries

  • Arrange interviews, and manage press conferences and media events

  • Lead rapid response to breaking news, attacks, or misinformation

  • Prepare the candidate for interviews, debates, and public appearances through talking points and media training

  • Manage communications staff, fellows, or consultants as applicable

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of communications experience in political campaigns, advocacy, or public affairs

  • Proven experience serving as a ** press secretary or lead communications role**

  • Strong political instincts and ability to write clearly, quickly, and persuasively

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong political judgment and ability to work under tight deadlines

  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and travel as needed
