JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is hiring a Caucus & Field Organizer to help build turnout for its biennial caucuses on February 28 and March 1, 2026. The goal of the caucuses is to grow the party and its volunteer base locally and regionally as well as help local candidates qualify for the ballot. Organizers will be at the heart of our effort to strengthen Democratic infrastructure, recruit and mobilize volunteers, support down ballot candidates and engage Maine communities in the political process.
About the Role
We’re looking for passionate, hardworking individuals eager to roll up their sleeves, meet voters where they are, and build lasting Democratic power in different parts of Maine. This role can be remote or hybrid with the flexibility to be based out of any of the MDP’s three offices in Augusta, Portland, and Bangor. In-person work will be expected during the week leading up to February 28 and March 1. Additionally, the position will include assisting with candidate signature gathering, running petitions, and helping candidates qualify for the ballot by the March Secretary of State deadline. This position reports directly to MDP’s Field Director.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
Relationship-building with caucus conveners and other grasstops: work with MDP staff and county chairs to identify caucus conveners and other key volunteers and assist them in planning and executing their caucuses.
Volunteer recruitment and turnout calls: Make calls to Democratic voters inviting them to participate in their local caucus and host call-time events to recruit caucus volunteers.
Local Candidate Support: Work with MDP’s Downballot Victory Program and targeted House and Senate campaigns to support local candidates to collect signatures to qualify for the ballot and $5 Clean Elections contributions.
Strategic Organizing & Relationship-Building: Work closely with county and municipal Democratic organizations, allied partners, and community leaders to expand Democratic engagement.
Volunteer Recruitment & Management: Recruit, train, and manage volunteer teams to support Democratic caucus efforts and local candidates.
Data & Accountability: Track outreach efforts, maintain accurate voter contact data, and use organizing metrics to support our caucus-building strategy.
Qualifications
-
A commitment to Democratic values and a passion for grassroots organizing.
-
Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build relationships with a diverse group of voters, volunteers, and community members.
-
Experience with political organizing, volunteer management, or community engagement preferred (but not required).
-
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and adapt to a fast-paced campaign environment.
-
A willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
-
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
