About the Role

A competitive federal campaign is seeking an experienced Finance Director to lead and scale a best-in-class fundraising operation. This is a senior leadership role responsible for developing, executing, and managing a comprehensive finance program capable of meeting aggressive goals in a fast-moving, high-stakes environment.

The Finance Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising strategy, donor engagement, events, compliance coordination, and internal systems. This position works directly with the candidate and senior leadership and is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, discipline, and strategic judgment.

Responsibilities

Fundraising Strategy

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive finance plan encompassing call time, events, digital coordination, direct mail, and donor cultivation.

  • Set and manage weekly, monthly, and cycle-long fundraising goals, with clear benchmarks and reporting.

  • Build scalable systems that allow the program to grow rapidly as the campaign matures.

  • Continuously evaluate performance and adjust strategy to ensure targets are met or exceeded.

Call Time and Donor Development

  • Design and manage a rigorous call time program, including daily call schedules, call sheets, research, and follow-up tracking.

  • Prepare the candidate with high-quality briefing materials to maximize fundraising efficiency.

  • Identify, research, cultivate, and maintain relationships with high-dollar donors, bundlers, and political networks.

  • Manage pledge tracking, donor follow-up, and re-solicitation efforts.

  • Oversee and optimize the use of autodialers and power dialers to maximize call volume, efficiency, and conversion rates, while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and campaign standards.

Events

  • Plan and execute a full calendar of fundraising events, from small donor meetings to large-scale, high-dollar events.

  • Oversee all aspects of event execution, including budgeting, logistics, invitations, compliance, staffing, and post-event reconciliation.

  • Ensure events are strategically aligned with overall fundraising goals and donor development plans.

Compliance and Operations

  • Ensure full compliance with federal campaign finance law and reporting requirements.

  • Work closely with compliance vendors and legal counsel to maintain accurate records and timely filings.

  • Implement and maintain internal controls and best practices for finance operations.

  • Train staff and volunteers on compliance standards as appropriate.

Management and Leadership

  • Recruit, manage, and mentor finance staff and volunteers.

  • Coordinate closely with senior staff, consultants, and vendors to align fundraising with campaign strategy.

  • Maintain clear internal reporting structures, metrics, and accountability systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience in political fundraising, campaign finance, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding ambitious fundraising goals.

  • Proficiency with top-tier political donor and finance databases, including Numero, NGP VAN, ActBlue, and related fundraising and compliance tools.

  • Hands-on experience using autodialers and power dialers in a high-volume fundraising environment.

  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment.

  • Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as campaign demands require.

Preferred Experience

  • Federal or statewide campaign experience.

  • Experience managing finance programs at scale.

  • Proven ability to run disciplined, data-driven call time operations.

  • Familiarity with national donor networks and political fundraising ecosystems.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-pressure political environments.

Compensation

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

  • Benefits and performance-based incentives may be available.

  • Position is full-time and based on campaign needs, with travel as required.
