Down Home North Carolina is seeking a full-time, permanent Personnel Manager to join our growing team.
The Personnel Manager will work closely with Down Home’s Operations manager to ensure that the
organization can run smoothly and efficiently. We know that none of our work to build power for working
people can happen without a great operations team, and this role is a great opportunity to make a big
contribution to the success of Down Home.
The Personnel Manager is the go-to person for all employee-related issues. The job of Personnel Manager is
important to Down Home NC’s success. People are our most important asset and you’ll help to ensure we
have a happy and productive workplace where everyone works to realize our established mission and
objectives. Promoting corporate values and shaping a positive culture is a vital aspect of the Personnel
Manager job description and specification. This position will support various internal processes, including
job posting and onboarding, processing timesheets, and be the liaison between TriNet and the organization.
We are looking for someone who likes working with people, has a passion for systems, and appreciates a
well-run operations department!
No previous experience in non-profit work is required. We are excited to interview candidates who have
experience in this field.

Founded in 2017, Down Home has built a strong organizational track record, including:
● Electing Diamond Staton-Williams in House District 73, the first Black woman to represent Cabarrus
County in the General Assembly as well as temporarily preventing a Republican Supermajority
● Winning a years-long statewide campaign to Expand Medicaid, which was passed by the General
Assembly in 2023
● Helping to elect the first Latinx state legislator in NC history
● Growing a statewide membership base that includes all 100 counties of North Carolina
● Anchoring the first southern, rural deep canvass and race-class narrative tests
Job Responsibilities
● Assist with job descriptions, job posting, staff onboarding, and exit processes.
● Recommend, interpret, and administer employee relations, policies and SOP
● Train staff on organizational policies.
● Collect hiring documents, I-9s, tax documents
● Collect timesheets, maintain personnel records, and implement the organization's policies and
practices
● Create and calendar virtual meetings, take staff meeting notes, and other administrative tasks
● Process and submit invoices
● Liaison between TriNet and the organization.
● Book organizational travel and accommodation needs
● Order and track supplies for multiple offices across the state
● Write memos, correspondence, invoices, receipts, spreadsheets and other reports as needed
● Administer and interpret provisions of collective bargaining agreements
● Maintain a positive working relationship with bargaining unit staff leaders and work with bargaining
unit to resolve conflicts;
● Keep the department records and filing systems up to date and organized
● Handle sensitive company information in a confidential manner and according with Federal and NC
state law
● Provide polite and professional communication with vendors, members and staff
● Cover Operations Manager duties when absent due to vacation, illness or other time deemed
necessary.
● Administrative tasks, not limited to, bank deposits, post office pick ups, purchasing office supplies,
etc
Required Competencies:
● Trust builder: Ability to establish credibility and respect with colleagues, and an understanding of
how to build strong, long-term relationships. Build relationships with staff, members, contractors, and
stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with people from different
backgrounds.
● Systems builder: Demonstrated ability to translate a vision into results. Ability to create and
document systems, practices, and standards from scratch and that can be used (and modified) for
years to come.
● Effective project management skills: Demonstrated ability to successfully execute complex projects,
including setting goals and developing a realistic work plan. Move staff to action and hold them
accountable with and without formal authority. Highly organized and with strong attention to detail.
Proven ability to manage complex schedules and responsibilities with minimal support or oversight.
● Mission alignment: Committed to the vision of a powerful, inclusive, rural, multiracial, working-class
movement-building as a path towards liberation for all people.
Familiarity with financial tools and tracking systems (Quickbooks preferred); familiarity with G-Suite
preferred, and personal or professional experience living in rural communities, living in the South, and/or
organizing in the South are a plus but not required. Requires Experience developing and implementing
financial procedures independent judgment, excellent people skills, and excellent written and oral
communication skills
Some irregular hours are required, including nights and weekends. Location is flexible within North Carolina.

This position is not eligible for inclusion in Down Home’s bargaining unit.
Compensation
Compensation for this full-time, permanent staff position is $90,000 to $105,000 annually and includes
best-in-class health and retirement benefits. We also offer unusual benefits, including a sabbatical policy
and relocation stipend. Location is flexible within North Carolina. Applicants must be able and willing to
travel regularly for work.
