JOB DESCRIPTION

The Deputy Director for Programming is a senior leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and scaling Battleground Alliance’s national field programming across priority congressional districts. Reporting directly to the National Field Director, this role leads program development, training, and field materials while ensuring consistency, quality, and effectiveness. The ideal candidate excels at developing frameworks that turn big goals into programs that others can run successfully. They design ambitious programs with real-world constraints in mind, and design materials and trainings that are easy to adapt across contexts.

The Deputy Director for Programming works closely with the data and communications teams to translate strategy into executable, persuasive, and data-informed field programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the National Field Director in the development, refinement, and execution of national field program strategy

  • Lead the design of scalable field programs, including voter contact models, persuasion frameworks, and GOTV programming

  • Develop, maintain, and distribute national training materials for field staff, including onboarding curricula, toolkits, and professional development resources

  • Create and standardize field assets such as scripts, canvass packets, training guides, and best-practice documentation

  • Partner with the data team to implement and operationalize field tools, reporting systems, and targeting methodologies across districts

  • Work with data team to ensure consistent and effective use of data, technology, and field tools by regional and in-state teams

  • Collaborate closely with the communications team to align field materials with broader narrative, earned media, and persuasion goals

  • Monitor program effectiveness and incorporate feedback from field teams to continuously improve training and program design

  • Support pilot programs and innovation within field operations, testing new approaches and scaling successful models

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6–9 years of experience in political campaigns, organizing, or related programmatic roles, including previous experience in senior program, training, or deputy director–level roles on campaigns or advocacy organizations

  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing large-scale field programs across multiple states or districts

  • Strong understanding of voter contact programs, persuasion, turnout, and field organizing models

  • Strong program design skills with the ability to translate strategy into clear, usable field programming

  • Experience developing training curricula and field-facing materials for diverse teams

  • Proficiency with voter file systems and field organizing tools

  • Experience working closely with data teams to implement targeting, reporting, and performance tracking

  • Experience managing multiple program tracks simultaneously

  • Ability to assess program effectiveness using quantitative and qualitative data

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong facilitation and training skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with coalition partners
