JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The David Trone for Maryland Campaign is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Communications and Digital Assistant to support the campaign’s communications and media efforts. This role will assist with press outreach, media monitoring, message distribution, and digital communications, working closely with the Communications Director and senior staff. The Communications and Digital Assistant plays a key role in ensuring timely, accurate, and effective communication of the campaign’s message and is ideal for candidates interested in political communications and media relations.

Compensation:$5,500 to $6,500 per month, commensurate with experience.

Benefits:

The campaign offers a competitive compensation package including the salary range listed above, potential travel and mileage reimbursement, and paid sick leave in accordance with Maryland law. Additional information regarding pay schedule and applicable benefits will be provided at the time of hire.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily communications operations, including drafting and distributing press releases, media advisories, and statements.

  • Support media outreach by maintaining press lists, pitching stories, and tracking reporter inquiries.

  • Monitor news coverage, social media, and political developments relevant to the campaign and its opponents.

  • Support digital communications by drafting social media and video content.

  • Support rapid response efforts by gathering information, drafting talking points, and flagging emerging issues.

  • Assist with the preparation of press materials, briefing documents, and background information for the candidate and senior staff.

  • Provide on-the-ground support at campaign events, press conferences, and media availabilities.

  • Coordinate closely with the communications, digital, and field teams to ensure consistent messaging.

Qualifications:

  • Access to reliable transportation.

  • Access to a laptop and a cell phone.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

  • Familiarity with political communications, media relations, or journalism is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with social media and video editing software is highly desirable.

  • Comfort working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as campaign needs require.

  • Commitment to the values and goals of the David Trone for Maryland Campaign.

  • Fluency in Spanish and ties to the district are a plus.
