JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director or Senior Director of Content Strategy to build and lead Magnitude Media's Content Strategy vertical within the Convening Hub.

About Magnitude Media

Magnitude Media is a new kind of communications organization dedicated to winning the battle for attention, emotion and meaning. We are building infrastructure to align and scale voices on the left so they can break through today’s fragmented media landscape. Our partners include elected officials, influential creators, and cutting-edge digital media organizations. We monitor emerging narratives, convene aligned messengers, and train leaders to show up where Americans actually consume content. Our work is year-round, data-driven, and designed to help the Left stop reacting and start shaping the conversations that matter.

Description

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director or Senior Director of Content Strategy to build and lead Magnitude Media's Content Strategy vertical within the Convening Hub. This role is critical to helping elected officials and key left-leaning voices reimagine their digital communications to compete in today's modern media landscape.

The Director or Senior Director of Content Strategy will work with elected officials' communications teams to identify daily content opportunities, develop platform-optimized strategies, and help coordinate messaging during key moments. This person will help translate broader narrative goals into actionable content that generates attention, builds audiences, and shapes how Americans view politicians.

This is a unique opportunity to build a new function from the ground up while working closely with some of the most influential voices in politics. The ideal candidate combines deep digital content expertise with strong political judgment, relationship-building skills, and the ability to translate strategy into concrete action.

Responsibilities

Content Strategy Development & Execution

  • Build and manage relationships with elected officials' digital communications teams to strengthen their day-to-day digital content strategy.

  • Provide regular strategic guidance on platform-specific best practices, content formats, and distribution tactics tailored to each office's goals and audiences.

  • Identify daily content opportunities tied to news cycles, cultural moments, and strategic narrative priorities, translating monitoring insights into actionable recommendations.

  • Help elected officials pick strategic fights that generate attention while advancing key narratives around affordability and corruption.

  • Work with teams to develop rapid internal approval processes that enable timely, authentic content creation.

  • Encourage risk-taking, humor, and authenticity in elected officials' digital presence while maintaining strategic alignment with broader messaging goals.

Coordination & Amplification Support

  • Identify and prepare high-performing content for elected officials that's ready for the Partnerships team to pitch to left-leaning pages for amplification across our network.

  • Create pre-produced, platform-optimized clips from elected officials' content that the Partnerships team can easily distribute to high-impact pages.

  • Develop systems for tracking upcoming content opportunities (media appearances, speeches, hearings, events) and flagging moments with amplification potential.

  • Work with the Partnerships team to maintain a calendar of elected officials' content opportunities that inform broader amplification strategies.

Rapid Response & Content Production

  • Lead rapid response efforts during breaking news moments, working with elected officials' teams to develop timely, attention-grabbing content.

  • Monitor and clip media appearances booked by Magnitude Media's Matchmaker team and identify opportunities to repurpose content from longer-form appearances (podcasts, speeches) into platform-optimized clips for elected officials and key partner pages.

  • Source and adapt high-performing content from Magnitude Media's Monitoring Hub, creating optimized, unbranded assets that elected officials' teams can easily deploy.

  • Provide feedback on draft content, offering specific suggestions for optimization before publication.

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Translate insights from Magnitude Media's Monitoring Hub into actionable strategic recommendations for elected officials.

  • Track and analyze performance metrics across elected officials' channels to identify what's working and inform content strategy adjustments.

  • Monitor cultural and political conversations to identify authentic entry points for elected officials to engage beyond traditional political content.

  • Provide regular reporting on content performance and emerging opportunities.

  • Document best practices and case studies to scale learnings across Magnitude Media's network.

Team Building & Management

  • Build and manage a high-performing team of Content Strategists as this vertical grows.

  • Develop systems, workflows, and documentation to scale support across a growing number of partner offices.

  • Collaborate closely with other Magnitude Media teams to ensure integrated strategy and execution.

  • Contribute to Magnitude Media's broader strategic planning and organizational development.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of relevant experience for the Director role or 8+ for the Senior Director role in digital communications, social media strategy, or content creation in political or advocacy settings, with experience working directly with elected officials' communications teams.

  • Proven track record developing and executing successful social media strategies that drive engagement, grow audiences, and achieve measurable outcomes.

  • Deep understanding of platform-specific content strategies across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, YouTube, Threads, and emerging platforms.

  • Strong political judgment and ability to navigate sensitive dynamics while providing candid strategic counsel to senior communications staff and elected officials.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and capitalize on real-time content opportunities tied to news cycles and cultural moments.

  • Experience with content creation tools and platforms (Canva, Opus, video editing software, scheduling tools).

  • Data-driven approach with ability to analyze social media performance metrics and translate insights into strategy adjustments.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to provide clear, actionable feedback on content.

  • Voracious consumer of digital content across platforms with a finger on the pulse of what's breaking through and why.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort building new programs and workflows from scratch in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong project management skills with ability to juggle multiple priorities and partner relationships simultaneously.

  • Commitment to progressive values and understanding of the current political landscape.
