**Location: **National. 100% Remote, with up to 25% of expected travel for in-state support, in-person programs, events, and team meetings and retreats.

Position Details:
The States Project is hiring two roles within Deputy Director and/or Director titles, commensurate with experience. These are full-time, exempt at-will positions. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person events and team retreats, etc. Travel to assigned states will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position.
The Opportunity:
TSP is seeking two Deputy Director(s) or Director(s) of Lawmaker Engagement as we grow our team. They will manage TSP’s governance work in assigned states, working to ensure that lawmakers have the tools and resources they need to improve people’s lives.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Lawmaker Engagement, they will maintain all in-state governance relationships within a set of assigned states. The ideal candidates are able to build and grow relationships easily, comfortable with leading trainings, proactive, and have experience working directly with lawmakers or on policy campaigns.
Both roles are full-time, non-exempt at-will positions that will work across The States Project and affiliated initiatives. The team currently operates remotely, with occasional in-person team retreats, etc. Some travel will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of these positions.
What You Will Do:
Deputy Director(s) and Director(s) have similar portfolios, with the exception that a Director will be tasked with more complex execution. Principal activities will include but not be limited to:

Building and managing relationships with lawmakers, caucuses, and staff and other in-state organizations in assigned states to achieve TSP objectives

Gathering and providing timely, relevant updates and information about caucuses, other in-state partners, policy agendas, and the political or policy landscape in each state to internal and external stakeholders

Monitoring legislative and political news across assigned states, and identifying opportunities for impact

Supporting or leading lawmaker trainings on tools and best practices to more actively, effectively, and visibly serve their constituents

Helping lawmakers and caucuses govern effectively and align around bold, strategic agendas to achieve the American Promise

Drafting or contributing to content and programming for lawmakers

Leveraging tools from a cross-functional team to deliver identified support to lawmakers and caucuses

Identifying and conducting outreach to lawmakers to participate in various programming opportunities and grow TSP's network

Collaborate with other internal teams to keep stakeholders informed on key work with lawmakers, caucuses, and staff

May also include providing strategic political advice to lawmakers and staff about how to effectively navigate challenging situations and dynamics
Qualifications:

Deputy Director: 5+ years relevant experience, including working with lawmakers

Director: 7+ years relevant experience, including working with lawmakers

Bachelor’s degree or equivalentPassion for and alignment with TSP’s mission, vision, and theory of changeAble to build relationships easily
