JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maine Democratic Party (MDP) is looking for a Political Associate to join our team and assist with key partybuilding efforts ahead of the crucial 2026 midterm elections. This includes facilitating the development of key councils, liaising with County Democratic Committees or Democratic Campaigns, and assisting in the creation of public events to boost visibility of the party. No prior political or campaign experience is required—we are especially interested in applicants with service industry, customer service, or community-based work backgrounds.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to be on the front lines of one of the most important fights in Maine this year. The Maine Democratic Party is expanding its presence through key partnerships with the development of new council groups, grant programs, candidate visibility events, along with municipal and county committee exercises. This position reports to MDP’s Senior Organizing and Political Director to start and is a full-time position through the second week of November 2026 with the opportunity to continue working at MDP if the circumstances allow.
Key Responsibilities

Advance the goal of building essential infrastructure within the Maine Democratic Party to increase brand awareness and opportunities for involvement.

Meet daily and weekly goals for conversations, updates, benchmarks working with local infrastructure.

Represent the state party in the community and serve as a representative to other parts of the MDP ecosystem.

Work closely with the political department and other MDP staff to share updates and collaborate on strategy.

Assist with events, visibility, and campaign efforts as elections approach.
Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for talking with people.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Commitment to the values of the Democratic Party and protecting voting rights.

Willingness to work weekends when needed.

Reliable transportation and willingness to travel daily.

Previous campaign, organizing, or community experience is a plus, but not required.

Experience in customer service, retail, food service, or other people-facing roles is highly valued.

This is a full-time, temporary position through November 2026, paid at $22/hour, with overtime eligibility. This position includes a full benefits package and is part of the Maine Democratic Party’s bargaining unit, represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local #1837.
We are hiring an individual that will be required to work out of the Maine Democratic Party offices in Augusta, Bangor, or Portland for 4 days per week.
