About the Campaign

Audrey Denney is running for Congress in California’s 1st Congressional District to bring values-driven, community-rooted leadership to Washington. Our campaign is built on the belief that winning elections requires more than turnout. It requires relationships, trust, and people who know how to bring others along.

Our field program reflects the realities of a large, rural, and diverse district. We prioritize relational organizing, local leadership development, and a deep respect for place and community. Learn more about the campaign here.

About the Role

Field Organizers are the heart of our campaign. They are responsible for building strong volunteer teams, training and supporting local leaders, and creating a welcoming, high-energy organizing culture that inspires people to take action.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Enjoys meeting new people and making them feel welcome

  • Is excited about motivating, training, and coaching others

  • Believes organizing is about relationships, not just numbers

  • Is deeply aligned with Audrey Denney’s mission, values, and priorities

  • Highly values hard work, taking initiative, thoughtful communication, and being part of something meaningful

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment & Relationship-Building

  • Recruit volunteers through events, outreach, and one-on-one conversations

  • Build genuine relationships with volunteers rooted in trust, support, and respect

  • Create pathways for volunteers to grow into leadership roles

Training & Leadership Development

  • Train volunteers in door-to-door canvassing, phone banking, and relational organizing

  • Coach volunteer leaders and captains to run effective canvasses

  • Provide encouragement, feedback, and support to help volunteers succeed

Field Program Execution

  • Participate in direct voter contact through weekly canvassing and phone banking

  • Support ** Volunteer County Organizers** in smaller and rural counties

  • Coordinate closely with the Field Director and fellow organizers to meet weekly goals

  • Support planning and execution of field-related events, including field launches, meet-and-greets, canvassing training events (virtual and in-person), tabling and outreach events, and more

  • Help manage event staffing and when necessary, staff campaign outreach events

Culture & Team Building

  • Foster an inclusive, positive, and people-centered campaign culture

  • Help volunteers feel seen, appreciated, and excited to come back

  • Model the campaign’s values in every interaction

  • Participate in weekly organizing and regular campaign team meetings and functions

Data & Accountability

  • Track volunteer activity and voter contact accurately

  • Submit timely reports and help maintain strong data hygiene

  • Use data as a tool to strengthen relationships and strategy, not as an end in itself

  • Under the direction of the Field Director, use data to implement program improvements and adjustments

Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Who We’re Looking For

We’re looking for organizers who are:

  • Outgoing and relational: You enjoy talking to people and can connect easily with a wide range of personalities

  • Goal and numbers-motivated: You love understanding and using data to drive decision-making and success.

  • Persuasive and warm: You know how to win people over without pressure or pretense

  • Strong trainers: You can explain things clearly, patiently, and in a way that builds confidence

  • Mission-aligned: You believe in Audrey Denney’s vision and want to help bring it to life

  • Hard-working and resilient: You’re energized by ambitious goals and not afraid of long days

  • Team-oriented: You collaborate well, ask for help, communicate proactively, and support others

  • Adaptable: You can adjust tactics to different communities, including rural and harder-to-reach areas

Previous campaign or organizing experience is helpful but not required. We strongly encourage people with deep community ties, organizing instincts, or leadership experience in other fields to apply. Due to frequent travel, reliable transportation is strongly recommended.
