JOB DESCRIPTION

About The Role:

  • Overseeing media relations strategy for accounts, including heavy pitching and reporter relationship management

  • Developing communications strategy and executing media tactics for clients

  • Supervising communications associates

  • “Managing up” to partners – helping ensure agency leaders’ time is used efficiently and that agency leaders are engaged effectively and efficiently in client strategy

  • Ensuring effective internal communication and processes

  • Copywriting and editing written materials, including press releases, blog posts, newsletter copy, and other external facing products

  • Day-to-day client management including client deliverables

About You:

  • You are an excellent copywriter and editor – non-negotiable.

  • You are a clear and precise communicator – internally and externally.

  • You have significant experience pitching reporters and going on-the-record. You have a track record of placing big stories in major and influential outlets. You understand the grit and creativity necessary to land a tough story in today’s media landscape.

  • You know how to use AI tools effectively as a time-saver but you are not overly dependent on them.

  • You are passionate about the issues we work on, you have a solid grasp of the U.S. political landscape, and you are a consumer of political journalism.

  • You are able to work quickly and precisely: fast turnarounds, sharp copy, and no typos.

  • You are detail-oriented, deadline-oriented, and confidently handle both fast-paced and long-term projects simultaneously.

  • You are interested and enthusiastic about nurturing and coaching junior team members.

  • You are a self-starter, you are comfortable working independently as well as within a team, and you know when to ask for support.

We’re looking for folks who meet these requirements:

  • 7-10 years experience in communications roles at progressive advocacy organizations, electoral campaigns, and/or consulting firms serving those clients

  • Strong media relations background, with existing relationships and experience placing both top-tier national and local stories

  • Excellent, detail-oriented copywriting and editing skills

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

The following are not required, but will help a candidate stand out:

  • Experience at a PR agency in a client-facing role

  • Previous experience as a supervisor of junior staff

  • Cross-functional experience in digital/social, paid media, and/or fundraising

This position can be remote anywhere in the United States, but will require working East Coast hours. The salary range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000, depending on your experience and skillset. Benefits include health insurance premium reimbursement (QSEHRA) and a 401K plan with an employer contribution.
