Public Affairs Strategist
Location: NY, NY • Contract, Full Time • Hybrid/On-Site
Reports To: Senior Strategist

About the Role
TYS is seeking a sharp, strategic, and execution-oriented Public Affairs Strategist to advise clients and lead multi-channel campaign programs. This role is for someone who can think big, write tight, and manage the details. You will serve as a trusted advisor to candidates and organizational clients while project-managing TYS products and services - with a strong emphasis on government and public affairs. ** Ideal candidate will be based in the New York Metropolitan area.**
Key Responsibilities
Campaign & Political Advising

Serve as a strategic advisor to candidates and clients on campaign positioning, messaging, and voter targeting

Provide ongoing political guidance grounded in district analysis, opposition research, and coalition dynamics

Develop comprehensive campaign plans, communications calendars, and paid media strategies
Project Management & Product Delivery

Project manage TYS services, including direct mail, print materials, and digital ads from concept through delivery

Draft and edit copy for mail, digital ads, scripts, and persuasive communications

Manage vendor relationships and timelines to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget

Maintain internal tracking systems for deliverables, approvals, and production schedules
Communications Guidance

Advise on earned media strategy, rapid response, and message discipline

Draft messaging memos, briefing documents, and client-facing strategy decks

Collaborate with operations and creative teams to ensure strategic alignment across all outputs
Government and Public Affairs

Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and state government officials, media, community groups, and other stakeholders

Monitor legislative and regulatory developments

Attending meetings with elected officials and stakeholders as well as hearings and government meetings

Occasional travel to Albany or other locations

Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
-
3–7+ years of experience in political campaigns, consulting, public affairs, or government, with experience in city or state government highly desirable

Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the legislative process, government, and public policy
-
Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to craft compelling, concise messaging

Experience managing multiple projects in fast-paced, high-pressure environments

Proficiency with digital ad platforms, analytics dashboards, and project management tools

Comfort advising candidates and stakeholders directly
Preferred:
- Experience as a registered lobbyist

This is a long-term contract position with monthly compensation ranging from $7,500 to $8,500, commensurate with experience.
