JOB DESCRIPTION

Ethan Corson, a lifelong Kansan and current State Senator, is running for Governor of Kansas. Ethan is endorsed by Governors Laura Kelly and Kathleen Sebelius. This is one of the most competitive gubernatorial races in the country. You can learn more about Ethan here.

The Research Director will be responsible for hiring and managing an effective opposition and self-research department to support the campaign’s strategic goals for earned media, paid media, and overall risk assessment. The Research Director will be a key member of campaign leadership and senior staff, and they will report to the Campaign Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, execute, and maintain research plans to accomplish long-term opposition and self-research needs

  • Fact-check and approve all external campaign communications and other key campaign documents, like poll and ad backups and questionnaires

  • Manage rapid response program in coordination with the Communications Director

  • Recruit, hire, train, and manage a research team

  • Vet all event hosts, volunteers, and any other individuals who have a public role in the campaign

  • Oversee a tracking program against our opponents

Qualifications:

  • At least two cycles of experience in opposition research, with a strong preference for experience on a statewide campaign and/or at a national committee

  • Deep understanding of politics, political campaigns, and the daily news cycle

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality

  • Excellent writing skills

  • Ability to take a long-term plan from concept to execution

  • Attention to detail, organized, and deadline-oriented

  • Previous management experience

  • Proficiency with Nexis, FEC, CQ, and other research-related databases and services
