APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Please submit a RESUME and LETTER (1 page) that describes your interest, experience, commitment, and any relevant personal background to [email protected]. Include “Field Organizer” in the subject line. A NOTE TO THE NEW AMERICAN MAJORITY Studies have shown that women, nonbinary folks, and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications as described in a job description. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive organization and we are most interested in finding the best candidate for the job. That candidate may be one who comes from a background less traditional to our field of work, and that’s okay. We strongly encourage you to apply, even if you don’t believe you meet every one of the qualifications described. PASU is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQ+ individuals to apply. JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT PENNSYLVANIA STANDS UP

PA Stands Up is an independent, multiracial political organization by and for the many, with dues-paying members dedicated to winning a Pennsylvania that works for all of us. We are working people living across Pennsylvania’s cities, towns and rural areas. Our 4 chapters in 6 counties build grassroots leadership, fight for policies that work for working people, and elect candidates who represent our values.

JOB DESCRIPTION

PA Stands Up (PASU) seeks full time, temporary Field Organizers to lead a canvassing and community outreach program to grow our understanding of local issues, to shift political narratives, and to deepen our relationships within specific communities, over the course of at least 6 months with the potential to become salaried staff.

Beyond knocking doors, our Field Organizers will invest in people and place over an extended period of time. They will have daily political and strategic education where they will make meaning of what they’re hearing from their neighbors on the doors. They will complete our core curriculum to deepen understanding of topics such as self-interest, power, how to have effective one to ones, and storytelling. Field Organizers will also have daily call times and weekly one on ones, to follow up with people they talked to the day before, and invite them to come to local chapter events.

Rather than assigning different turf to canvassers each day or each week as is common practice in paid canvassing programs, every Field Organizer will be assigned to a cluster of specific strategic municipalities, and therefore will have knocked the same doors and talked to the same voters at least 8 times by November. Our Field Organizers will make meaning of their Neighbor to Neighbor conversations through daily debriefs, participate in script iteration, and learn to cut locally relevant and resonant issues.

Field Organizers must be based in Pennsylvania in one of our counties (Lackawanna, Luzerne, Northampton, Lehigh, Lancaster, Berks), and will require weeknight, and weekend hours.

Field Organizers report directly to PASU’s Field Director. PA Stands Up is a union shop, and as temporary hires, these positions are not within the union’s bargaining unit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • A deep understanding of/willingness to learn about the issues in the communities where you will be organizing

  • A sense of urgency & desire to engage voters door to door in your community, listening to their stories, asking questions, being curious, connecting, and offering them political community

  • Engaging voters on the doors and on the phones each day for consistent, iterative conversations in their turfs through Nov 8th, 2026

  • Daily calls to follow up with people you connected with during canvasses to establish trust and build relationships

  • Propositioning community members who you have had canvassing conversations with to join our political education events, trainings, and encourage membership

  • Conducting weekly one on ones to build relationships within community members who want to build power with their communities

  • Identifying emerging leaders in your turf clusters to invite them to join our Neighbor to Neighbor canvassing program

  • Debriefing conversations in the field as a team to strengthen our scripts and canvassing practices

  • Reporting canvass data, turf feedback, and key insights to the Field Director.

  • Attending meetings and trainings associated with and/or required of the role.

  • This is an in-person opportunity only, and general work hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 12pm-8:30pm.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong commitment to racial, social, economic, and gender justice

  • Strong commitment to independent, innovative political action by and for working people

  • A goal-driven, detail-oriented self-starter and problem-solver with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Strong strategy development and analytical skills

  • Strong verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to travel within your assigned communities, likely by car and on foot.

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary for this full time, temporary position is $25/hour with employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance; access to a 401(K) with employer match; and generous paid time off. This position is temporary, with employment through November 2026. However, there is possibility for the position to be hired on as a permanent employee at the end of the electoral cycle.
