JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly connected and strategic ** Communications Consultant** based in Arizona. This is a part-time, fully remote, 1099 contract position. In this role, you will lead localized media efforts on behalf of a major environmental NGO client, focusing on advancing clean energy and water conservation policies and projects within Arizona. The ideal candidate is deeply embedded in the Arizona media landscape and has a proven track record of securing earned media and shaping public relations strategy.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Media Relations: Leverage your existing network of Arizona press contacts (print, digital, broadcast, and radio) to proactively pitch and secure earned media coverage.

Opportunity Identification: Monitor local and state news to identify strategic opportunities for media coverage regarding clean energy and water conservation policies and projects in Arizona.

Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the Agave Strategy team, our client(s), and other partners to develop and execute comprehensive public relations campaigns that support specific political and policy objectives within the state.

Content Creation: Draft press releases, media advisories, op-eds, and talking points tailored to the Arizona media market and political landscape.

Advising: Provide on-the-ground insights and strategic counsel regarding Arizona’s political climate and how it intersects with environmental and conservation issues.
Qualifications:

Must be based in Arizona.

Demonstrated experience in public relations, political communications, journalism, or a closely related field.

Strong, pre-existing relationships with political, environmental, and local reporters/editors across Arizona.

Familiarity with clean energy initiatives, water conservation policy, and the environmental advocacy landscape in Arizona.

Ability to work independently as a 1099 contractor, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fully remote environment.

Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) a plus, but not required
