JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

Furhan Ahmad is running for New York State Assembly District 66 in Lower Manhattan. A Queens-born son of a taxi driver, Furhan spent more than two decades serving New Yorkers as an EMT, police officer, and firefighter. He is running because District 66 deserves a representative who understands how policy shows up in real life and will fight for practical, preventive solutions that keep neighborhoods safe, stable, and livable.

Our campaign is grassroots-driven and community-centered, focused on three core pillars: care and public safety, housing stability, and climate resilience. Winning this race means building genuine connections with voters across the district — one door, one conversation, one community at a time.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Campaign Fellows are the backbone of our voter contact operation. You will be on the front lines of the campaign, knocking doors, leading canvassing shifts, making phone bank calls, and helping to build and sustain the volunteer infrastructure that powers a winning campaign. This is a paid, part-time field role for people who are energized by direct community engagement and believe in the power of organizing to change outcomes.

Fellows will receive hands-on training in field organizing best practices, voter communication, and team leadership, skills that are valuable in any civic, nonprofit, or political career. As the campaign grows toward Election Day, strong performers will have the opportunity to take on expanded responsibilities and leadership within the field program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct door-to-door canvassing across District 66 to introduce voters to Furhan and the campaign's platform

  • Lead and support volunteer canvassing teams in the field, including training new volunteers and managing shift logistics

  • Make phone bank and text bank calls to identify supporters, persuade undecided voters, and mobilize turnout

  • Engage voters in genuine, two-way conversations about the issues shaping their neighborhood

  • Accurately record voter contact data using campaign tools (training provided)

  • Support campaign events, community gatherings, and visibility actions throughout the district

  • Help with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts

  • Attend weekly team check-ins, field briefings, and training sessions

  • Support Election Day operations including poll greeting, voter mobilization, and GOTV driving shifts

  • Other tasks to support campaign events and operational activities may be assigned as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and genuine comfort talking with a wide range of people

  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends, when most canvassing takes place

  • Commitment to Furhan's values of service, community, and practical progress

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in field organizing, canvassing, or community outreach

  • Experience leading or supervising small teams a strong plus

  • Familiarity with VAN, MiniVAN, or other voter contact platforms (training provided for all tools)

  • Bilingual skills especially Spanish, Mandarin, or other languages spoken in Lower Manhattan, strongly encouraged

  • Familiarity with District 66 neighborhoods including Tribeca, Battery Park City, the Financial District, and surrounding areas

COMMITMENT

Hours: Minimum 10 hours per week, up to 20 hours per week

Schedule: Flexible; evenings and weekends required; this is when voters are home

Duration: immediately through June 23, 2026, with the option of extending through November General Election.

Location: Hybrid, District 66; Lower Manhattan
