JOB DESCRIPTION

ABOUT US

We’re a small, scrappy nonprofit startup using AI to power grassroots pro-democracy organizing at a scale that hasn’t been possible before. We’re currently in stealth mode, but here’s what you need to know: our team includes experienced campaigners, organizers, and technologists, and our early experiments have shown that AI can genuinely engage everyday people in real organizing — not just blast emails, but actual multi-step conversations that move people to action. We’re now scaling from proof-of-concept to running multiple campaigns simultaneously, and we need someone to help make that possible.

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a sharp, proactive, tech-savvy Strategic Initiatives and Operations Manager to be the operational backbone and accelerant for a fast-moving team. This role is for someone who can take on the kind of high-impact special projects that make a small team punch way above its weight _and _handle the operational essentials that keep the team running.

You’ll report directly to the founder. You’ll keep systems running, solve problems before anyone notices them, and take ownership of projects that range from running a hiring process to building an AI-powered workflow to researching agentic ad platforms. Some weeks will be logistics-heavy. Some weeks will be deep research or vibe-coding a shared tool. The common thread is: you see what needs doing, you figure it out, and you make it happen.

This is an exceptional opportunity for someone early in their career — roughly 3–7 years out of college — who wants to work at the intersection of progressive political organizing, technology, and startup culture. You’ll learn a tremendous amount, have real ownership from day one, and help shape an organization that’s trying to change what’s possible in pro-democracy organizing.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Drive special projects that accelerate the work (~70% of time)

You’ll take on a rotating set of projects based on what the organization needs most — often identifying those needs yourself. Examples could include: researching and recommending new AI research tools, creating an AI skill to automate an aspect of team function, standing up the infrastructure to launch new campaign brands quickly, or “dogfooding” our own AI tools and reporting back on what’s broken. More broadly:

  • Research and evaluation — digging into a question, producing clear analysis, and making a recommendation the team can act on.

  • Building internal infrastructure — creating replicable processes, systems, or tools that help the team move faster and launch more campaigns.

  • Running processes — owning cross-cutting projects from start to finish, whether that’s hiring, grant applications, or team learning sessions.

The ideal version of this list is one you’d mostly write yourself, because you’re the kind of person who hears a problem in a meeting and shows up the next day with a solution and three things you learned along the way.

Keep the engine running (~30% of time)

You’ll manage the operational engine of a small, remote team, ensuring low friction.

  • Manage and troubleshoot the team’s tools and platforms — setting up new ones, maintaining subscriptions, configuring systems, and making sure everything works

  • Develop and maintain team policies, workflows, and processes (e.g., data retention, cybersecurity practices, knowledge management and file structures).

  • Handle complex scheduling and logistics — including events, retreats, and team meetings.

  • Plan and execute team culture initiatives to help a small remote team still feel like a team.

  • Find and seize opportunities to improve operations.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Exceptionally well-organized — you build systems, you track details, and nothing falls through the cracks. The operations side of this role demands it.

  • Completely reliable — you do what you say you’ll do, when you say you’ll do it. If something gets in the way, you flag it immediately.

  • Relentlessly curious — you ask thoughtful questions and pursue the answers, bringing back useful insight and recommendations.

  • Proactive and self-directed — You identify problems, develop a plan and take action without being prompted. You know when to ask for help.

  • Tech-native and a builder— you’re already using AI tools regularly and you tinker with them for fun. You’ve set up systems, automated workflows, or built tools — even scrappy ones. But you do NOT need an engineering background.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity — in a startup, the job description is a starting point. You thrive when the path isn’t fully mapped.

  • Mission-driven — you care about democracy, organizing, and the fight against authoritarianism.

  • A strong communicator — clear, concise, and direct. You can write a memorable email, facilitate a group conversation, or turn AI output into something incisive and slop-free.

  • Low ego — you're happy to do unglamorous work, you take feedback without defensiveness, and you navigate different personalities well. You know when to push and when to hold back.

DETAILS

  • Status: Full-time salaried employee with benefits. (If you would like to work less than full time with a pro-rated salary, let’s discuss).

  • Location: Remote (U.S. time zones)

  • Compensation: $75k - $105k (for full time work).

  • Benefits: Competitive benefits package including medical coverage, a 401(k), and generous paid time off.

  • Reports to: Founder/Director.

  • Start date: As soon as possible.
