JOB DESCRIPTION

Department: Communications Reports To: Research Director

A soon-to-be-announced Democratic US Senate campaign for Kansas is rapidly hiring for a growing team. The Tracker is on the road covering our opponent’s public events across Kansas. This role is for someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently in the field. The footage and intelligence you capture will directly inform the campaign’s communications and paid media strategy. When not in the field, the tracker will assist the research team with projects such as video and audio review.

Responsibilities

  • Cover the opponent's public events. Attend all publicly accessible events held by the opposing candidate across Kansas to capture clean video and audio recording.

  • Catalog and organize. Maintain organized files of all footage with notes, timestamps, and event details for use by the research, communication, and media teams.

  • Audio-Video research. Track the opponent's social media. Search for additional audio-video content online or elsewhere. Capture and review as discovered. Flag new content to research.

  • Flag notable content immediately. Update the Research Director and Communications Director the moment the opponent says something newsworthy..

  • Trip planning. Own your own logistics: routing, lodging when overnight travel is required, event intel ahead of arrival. Know the agenda and likely attendees before you show up. Mileage is reimbursed but getting there is up to you.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Prior tracking experience on a political campaign preferred but not required.

  • Comfort operating DSLR or mirrorless video cameras, shotgun microphones, and stabilizers in public settings. Campaign will provide equipment. Familiarity with transcription tools and video editing helpful.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational discipline with digital files.

  • Clean driving record, reliable vehicle, and willingness to travel extensively across Kansas, including rural counties, multi-day trips, and weekend events.

  • Discretion, professional conduct, and emotional discipline.

  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, including frequent evenings and weekends.

What Success Looks Like

Success for a Tracker is defined by the consistency and completeness of event coverage, the technical quality and ad-usability of the footage you capture, the speed with which breaking moments are flagged to research and comms, and the number of moments captured on your camera or found elsewhere that end up shaping the race.

Compensation: $4,000/month ($48,000)
