Compensation: $20-$25 per hour, depending on previous experience

Location: Kearny, NJ 07032 – in-person

Job Overview
Alex Valdez for Hudson County Commissioner is hiring motivated, energetic, and community-oriented ** paid political canvassers** to help power our grassroots field program ahead of the June 2nd Democratic Primary.
This campaign is about fighting for working people and building a more affordable, accessible, and inclusive Hudson County. We’re organizing block by block to connect directly with voters across District 9 – ** East Newark, Harrison, Jersey City, Kearny and Secaucus** – and elect a Commissioner who is rooted in the community and committed to its future.
Paid canvassers will play a critical role in voter outreach by knocking doors, having conversations with residents, delivering key campaign messages, collecting data, and helping turn out supporters across the district. Whether you’re experienced in political campaigns or getting involved for the first time, we’re looking for hardworking team players who are excited to make a real impact.
Responsibilities

Knock doors and speak directly with voters in targeted neighborhoods

Deliver persuasive and accurate messaging about Alex and the Unity Ticket

Persuade and mobilize voters to support Alex Valdez and the Hudson County Democratic Unity Ticket

Accurately collect voter data using campaign apps and materials

Distribute literature and campaign information

Attend trainings, team meetings, and campaign events as needed

Represent the campaign professionally and respectfully in the community
Qualifications

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Comfortable speaking with voters from diverse backgrounds

Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated

Able to walk for extended periods outdoors

Access to a car is preferred

Access to a smartphone is preferred

Prior experience in canvassing, sales, customer service, or community organizing is a plus but not required.

Strong belief in Democratic values and civic participation

Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
Prior campaign experience is welcome, but not required.

About Alex Valdez
Alex Valdez is a nonprofit leader, nurse in training, and former Sergeant in the New Jersey Army National Guard. Raised in Kearny by his mother and grandmother in a hardworking immigrant family, Alex learned early the values of sacrifice, service, and looking out for your neighbors. His career has been dedicated to helping others, from working with low-income students and first-generation college students to supporting refugees through the International Rescue Committee, serving in the Army National Guard, and now training as a nurse.
