JOB DESCRIPTION
Josh Turek for Iowa is hiring a Deputy Research Director for the 2026 election. The Deputy Research Director will report directly to the Research Director. This is not an entry-level position.
Location: This person will be expected to relocate to Des Moines, Iowa
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Collaborating with the Research Director to oversee day-to-day project management of other members of the research team.
- Working with the Research Director to develop and execute short- and long-term research projects for the campaign.
- Independently conduct research using public records, news clips, campaign finance reports, travel records, disclosures, and research databases with limited oversight.
- Substantiate campaign statements in earned and paid media, including polling and external communications, ensuring factual accuracy and message integrity
- Write rapid response research documents and pitch documents with precision and attention to detail.
- Oversee campaign vetting program.
- Other duties as needed.
Ideal qualifications for Deputy Research Director include but are not limited to:
- At least 1 cycle of political opposition research required. Campaign and/or committee research experience preferred.
- Mastery of standard research bullet and document writing.
- Experience with Lexis Nexis, campaign finance databases, court records, and other public records research.
- Excellent critical thinking, organization, writing, and communication skills and ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure.
