JOB DESCRIPTION

Michaela Barnett's campaign is a dynamic, scrappy, grassroots-driven effort to flip TN-02 blue and create real change in our district while we do it. This district is the longest held red seat in the country with Republicans consistently winning 60%+ of the vote. However, this year is our opportunity to be bold, creative, and contribute to a dynamic, lasting movement to build a better future for East Tennessee.

This is an unpaid internship, with a focus on helping young East Tennesseans learn the skills and knowledge necessary to support people-centered Democratic campaigns up and down the ballot. You'll gain hands-on experience working on a campaign, access to the candidate and senior staff, and our support when you're ready for a reference. We also offer weekly interactive professional development sessions and trainings with experts and local leaders. Through this internship, you will develop valuable capabilities and connections that translate beyond the political space.

If you're interested, please apply by filling out the application form!

Schedule:

  • The internship program runs for 9 weeks: June 16th through August 13th

  • Interns will work 15 hours per week, with core work hours being Tuesday - Thursday afternoons

  • This is an in-person role. On Tuesdays will have our interactive professional development sessions and trainings

Other Key Details:

  • There are four tracks for internships: Field, Current Events, Social Media, and Opposition Research

  • Every intern will also complete a capstone project related to their track and their personal interests

  • If you're looking for a paid role, we aren't hiring right now but we'd love to keep your resume on file for our next wave of paid organizers. If you're just looking to volunteer, please fill out our volunteer form here
