JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nathan Johnson campaign is hiring a Communications Director. The Communications Director is responsible for messaging support, media outreach, and social media management. This will be a full time position based in Austin, Texas with extensive travel around the state.

Responsibilities

• Build and execute the campaign’s communications strategy, both short-term message calendar and long-term narrative arc

• Pitch reporters, manage on-the-record interactions, and serve as the campaign’s day-to-day point of contact for media

• Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and producers across local, regional, and national outlets

• Monitor opponents, breaking news, and the political environment; turn around statements, releases, and quotes on tight deadlines

• Draft and edit press releases, op-eds, candidate remarks, surrogate talking points, and statements

• Prep the candidate for interviews, debates, and forums

Requirements

• At least one cycle of campaign event experience required, preferably in Texas

• Must have access to a personal vehicle

• Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
