JOB DESCRIPTION

Campaign Manager – Sara Hernandez for State Senate District 26

Location: Los Angeles, CA

Type: Full-Time

Start Date: July 2026 (flexible)

Duration: Through the November 2026 general election

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

Sara Hernandez is the Democratic candidate for State Senate District 26, running a coalition-backed campaign rooted in working families, labor, educators, and community leaders. We are seeking an experienced Campaign Manager to lead day-to-day operations and drive our general election field program through November 2026.

This role operates within a general consultant model — strategic decisions, messaging, and mail/media programs are owned by the consulting team. The Campaign Manager's focus is execution: keeping the campaign running operationally, managing staff, and building and overseeing a field program that moves voters. The ideal candidate brings genuine field depth and can own that program from structure through GOTV without requiring close day-to-day direction.

FIELD PROGRAM

  • The Campaign Manager will build and oversee the general election field program, including staff structure, organizing strategy, voter contact, and GOTV execution. SD-26 is a geographically and culturally diverse district, and the field program should be designed to reflect that.

  • Design and manage a field organizing structure suited to the district's general election voter universe.

  • Hire, onboard, and manage field organizers; set and track voter contact goals and hold staff accountable to performance.

  • Oversee a targeted outreach and ballot collection program serving multilingual senior communities in the district, in compliance with California ballot collection law.

  • Build and manage a volunteer and intern program to supplement paid staff, including GOTV surge capacity.

  • Coordinate with the campaign's PDI data program on voter universe, turf management, and contact tracking.

CAMPAIGN OPERATIONS & MANAGEMENT

  • Oversee day-to-day campaign operations and keep staff, consultants, and vendors aligned on priorities and deadlines.

  • Manage candidate scheduling and staffing for field events, community appearances, and coalition meetings.

  • Lead weekly all-staff meetings and drive follow-up on action items.

  • Serve as the primary internal point of contact for the general consultant on field metrics and program status.

  • Support staff onboarding, payroll coordination, and general campaign administration.

POLITICAL OUTREACH & STAKEHOLDER COORDINATION

  • Maintain and activate relationships with the campaign's labor and institutional endorsers as the field program scales into the general election.

  • Represent the campaign in coalition meetings and community events when the candidate is unavailable.

  • Support outreach to community organizations and partners relevant to the district's voter contact program.

  • Assist with endorsement follow-up and stakeholder engagement as needed in support of field goals.

COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT

  • Coordinate with the general consultant on messaging approvals, mail review, and press logistics.

  • Manage the campaign email calendar and content review process.

  • Proofread outward-facing campaign materials for accuracy and consistency.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2+ cycles of California campaign experience, with demonstrated experience managing field staff.

  • Track record building or running a field program — someone who has designed structure, hired Familiarity with PDI and standard California Democratic campaign infrastructure.

  • Strong organizational skills; comfortable managing field operations and campaign administration simultaneously.

  • Familiarity with State Senate District 26 and its communities strongly preferred.

  • Comfortable working within a general consultant model without close day-to-day strategic direction.

  • Multilingual candidates strongly encouraged to apply; Spanish, Korean, Mandarin/Cantonese, or Armenian a plus given district demographics.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and people-management skills are essential.
