JOB DESCRIPTION
Cooke for Congress is seeking an Communications Director to serve as the campaign’s point of contact for press outreach, and to design and implement a communications strategy centered on earned media and social media. They will also be responsible for managing incoming press events, pitching national and local media, and media prep for a DCCC endorsed Red-to-Blue campaign at the center of the battle for control of the House.
Responsibilities include:

Direct the day-to-day communications operations for the campaign

Develop and execute a strategic earned media plan, which aligns with the campaign’s broader political and strategic objectives

Develop and implement a coherent strategy for social media content creation and distribution
-
Work with the campaign manager to schedule and prepare for media availabilities

Coordinate with remote team members and national partners to drive media engagement, prepare materials, and align messaging

Foster inclusive team culture

Other department responsibilities as needed
Qualifications and Requirements:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, specifically press releases, talking points, and engaging social media content

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
-
Have at least two cycles of political communications experience or comparable political or advocacy experience

Ability to communicate with the press in a professional, politically sensitive manner

Experience working in Wisconsin politics, knowledge of Wisconsin media, and ties to Wisconsin preferred

Commitment to establishing a culture of respect and community

Current driver’s license and access to a car

Access to a computer and cell phone

Proficiency in MailChimp, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google Docs

Ability to demonstrate multicultural competence - the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to work with others who are culturally different from self in meaningful, relevant, and productive ways

Compensation: begins at $5,000/month
