Community Organizer

Location: Los Angeles County, California

Reports To: Campaign Manager

Position Type: Full-Time, Temporary Campaign Position

Position Overview

The campaign is seeking Community Organizers to build and mobilize support within key communities across the State Senate district. Community Organizers will serve as the campaign's primary liaison to specific constituencies, including Latino, Korean and Chinese communities.

Community Organizers will recruit and manage volunteers, cultivate relationships with community leaders and organizations, identify opportunities for candidate engagement, and ensure the campaign is authentically connected to the issues that matter most to the communities they represent.

The ideal candidate has strong ties within their community, understands its cultural and political dynamics, and is passionate about building grassroots political power.

Core Responsibilities

Community Outreach & Relationship Building

● Serve as the campaign's primary representative within an assigned community. ● Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, neighborhood stakeholders, advocacy organizations, faith institutions, cultural organizations, labor allies, and local businesses.

● Develop trusted relationships with key influencers and messengers throughout the community.

● Attend community events, meetings, and gatherings to represent the campaign and build visibility.

● Create and execute a community engagement plan designed to maximize support and participation.

Volunteer Recruitment & Leadership

● Recruit, train, and retain volunteers from within the assigned community. ● Build volunteer leadership teams capable of recruiting additional supporters and volunteers.

● Supervise interns, fellows, and volunteer leaders working within the constituency program.

● Organize volunteer recruitment drives, phone banks, canvasses, text banks, and community outreach activities.

● Maintain regular communication with volunteers and supporters.

● Foster a welcoming and inclusive organizing culture.

Community-Based Voter Contact

● Organize culturally competent voter outreach efforts tailored to the assigned community. ● Recruit volunteers to participate in canvassing, phone banking, text banking, and community events.

● Assist in developing messaging and outreach strategies that resonate with community members.

● Support translated communications and multilingual voter contact efforts when applicable.

● Ensure strong community participation in campaign events and voter turnout activities. ** Candidate & Campaign Engagement **

● Identify opportunities for candidate appearances, listening sessions, town halls, cultural celebrations, and community meetings.

● Coordinate introductions and meetings between campaign leadership and community stakeholders.

● Assist in planning and staffing community-focused campaign events. ● Advise campaign leadership on community concerns, sensitivities, and engagement opportunities.

Community Intelligence & Political Reporting

● Monitor issues, concerns, trends, and developments affecting the assigned community. ● Provide regular reports on emerging issues, community priorities, political developments, and stakeholder relationships.

● Gather feedback from voters, volunteers, and community leaders to inform campaign messaging and strategy.

● Identify opportunities to strengthen the campaign's standing within the community. ** Data & Reporting **

● Track volunteer recruitment, event attendance, voter contacts, and stakeholder engagement.

● Maintain accurate records in campaign databases and organizing systems. ● Submit regular reports regarding goals, accomplishments, challenges, and opportunities. ● Ensure campaign data is accurate, complete, and up to date.

Preferred Community-Specific Roles

The campaign anticipates hiring organizers focused on specific constituencies, including:

● Korean Community Organizer (Korean preferred)

● Chinese Community Organizer (Mandarin and/or Cantonese preferred) ● Latino Community Organizer (Spanish Preferred)

Additional community-specific positions may be created based on campaign needs. ** Qualifications **

Required

● Strong ties to and understanding of the assigned community.

● Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

● Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

● Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

● Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

● Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the district.

● Commitment to the campaign's mission and values.

Preferred

● Fluency or professional proficiency in the primary language spoken by the assigned community.

● Previous experience in political campaigns, community organizing, labor organizing, advocacy, or volunteer management.

● Experience recruiting and managing volunteers.

● Existing relationships with community organizations, institutions, or leaders. ● Familiarity with voter databases such as VAN/PDI or similar organizing tools.

Physical Requirements

This position requires frequent walking, standing, canvassing, lifting campaign materials, attending community events, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
