JOB DESCRIPTION
Description
The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking an experienced Deputy Operations Director for GOTV for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign. This role owns the operational backbone of the statewide Get Out The Vote (GOTV) program: securing and confirming staging locations, preparing and distributing materials across the state, and managing the timelines that keep every department on pace through the final stretch of the election.
At their core, the Deputy Operations Director for GOTV is a tour manager. They think in checklists, inventories, and lead times, and they take satisfaction in the unglamorous work that makes big programs possible. They measure success by whether an organizer has the staging location and supplies needed to run a high impact GOTV in their turf.
This role requires someone who manages up and across with confidence. The Organizing, Voter Access, and Data departments set their own program goals; this role is responsible for surfacing what those teams need, chasing the decisions and inputs required to deliver it, and flagging risks early enough to fix them. The right candidate is comfortable developing the structures that hold senior staff and peer departments to shared deadlines.
This position reports to the Operations Director and works closely with departments across the coordinated campaign to implement programs that elect Democrats up and down the ballot. This position is full-time.
Key Responsibilities & Characteristics
-
Staging Location Support: Manage the operational side of identifying and confirming staging locations. Whether that’s vetting sites against space requirements and ADA standards, maintaining the staging location tracker, and serving as the operations point of contact for sites statewide
-
Material Preparation & Distribution: Own sourcing, assembly, and distribution of all GOTV materials and supplies, including standing up and running distribution hubs, managing print and vendor orders, and ensuring every staging location receives complete, accurate material boxes on schedule
-
GOTV Project Management: Maintain the operational GOTV calendar and timelines, track cross-departmental deliverables and benchmarks against deadlines, and escalate blockers to the Operations Director and department leads early enough to adjust
-
Facilities & Space: Secure and equip the physical spaces the GOTV program runs out of, including offices, distribution hubs, and boiler room space — internet, furniture, utilities, food, and day-of supplies
-
Cross-Department Support: Serve as the operations partner to the Organizing and Voter Access departments, translating their program needs into concrete supply, space, and logistics plans and confirming delivery against them
-
Budget & Vendor Tracking: Track GOTV spending against budget, manage vendor relationships and purchase orders, complete regular supply audits, and keep accurate records for compliance reporting
Skills and Qualifications
-
Experience: At least 2+ cycles of organizing or GOTV experience, with a strong preference for at least 1 cycle of experience in either a Deputy or Director role on a statewide electoral program, with a preference for Michigan-specific experience
-
Management: Experience managing staff through multiple layers, including experience managing unionized staff
-
Program Execution: Proven ability to build and execute direct voter contact programs at scale, across canvass, phone, and text, and to hit aggressive turnout goals under tight timelines
-
Communication: Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, especially as applied to building a strong, inclusive management culture that supports staff development
-
Strategic Coordination: Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization
-
Technical Fluency: Proven fluency with VAN and other organizing and GOTV tools
