About Better Ballot Iowa
Better Ballot Iowa is building a grassroots movement to give every Iowan a stronger voice in our elections. We educate voters, organize volunteers, engage legislators, and advocate for practical election innovations that give voters more choices and better representation. Our goal is to pass statewide implementation of ** Voting 2.0**—single open primaries and ranked choice voting—by 2030, giving every Iowan a more representative, competitive, and voter-centered election system.
We're at a pivotal moment in our efforts. As our supporter network grows, so does the need for a stronger grassroots organization. We're expanding our paid staff to help organize volunteers, mobilize supporters, and build the statewide movement needed to achieve Voting 2.0.
The Role
We're looking for an organized, energetic Campaign Coordinator to help grow our supporter network, mobilize volunteers, strengthen our grassroots campaign across Iowa. and support our fundraising. You will often be the first person many Iowans meet when they connect with Better Ballot Iowa.
What You’ll Do
Citizen Awareness & Outreach Coordination

Coordinate events and logistics for canvassing and speaking engagements

Support community outreach efforts to expand BBI’s visibility across Iowa

Work with the communications team in its role of outreach and education
Supporter & Volunteer Engagement

Welcome, train and follow up with new supporters and volunteers

Coordinate volunteer activities and communications

Develop and maintain educational materials for supporters

Help execute statewide voter education campaigns
Legislative Engagement Assistance

Organize volunteer outreach during elections and legislative sessions

Track and maintain records of legislator stances on relevant issues

Support endorser relationship management and coordination with lobbying partners

Coordinate events including Advocacy Day at the Iowa State Capitol
Fundraising Operations

Manage donor outreach logistics and contact lists

Execute fundraising emails on behalf of the Fundraising Lead
What You Bring
-
2–5 years of experience in campaign work, community organizing, or nonprofit operations
-
Iowa residency strongly preferred
-
A working knowledge of Iowa's political and civic landscape
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work across teams without direct authority

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Familiarity with donor databases, email platforms, or CRM tools is a plus
-
Genuine commitment to election innovation and civic engagement in Iowa

Availability for occasional evenings and weekends as campaign needs require
Role Details

Schedule: Part-time, 20 hours/week with flexibility for evenings and weekends

Reports to: Benjamin Allen, Executive Director

Serves all four pillar leaders based on campaign priorities

Pay range is $28 - $33/hour

This is a grant funded position with an initial term of one-year.
