JOB DESCRIPTION

Osborn For Senate is seeking an experienced Communications Director to lead all aspects of the campaign’s communications operation. The Communications Director will drive earned media and message strategy while overseeing press, digital coordination, and rapid response. This position reports to the Campaign Manager and works closely with the candidate. The monthly salary range for this role is between $6,000-10,000, commensurate with experience.

Responsibilities:

● Create a proactive communications plan and calendar to strategically drive the campaign’s message across mediums

● Lead earned media strategy, including pitching, press events, and building strong reporter relationships

● Prepare the candidate for key interviews and public appearances

● Manage junior members of the communications team

● Steward the project management of policy roll-outs, press conferences, and other communications events

● Run the rapid-response operation, monitoring news and disinformation and directing timely responses

● Manage incoming press inquiries, serve as primary media point of contact and on-the-record spokesperson

● Draft and/or oversee drafting of press releases, talking points, statements, speeches, and social media copy as needed

● Travel with the candidate to press events as needed

Qualifications:

● Two cycles of experience in campaign-based communications work

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

● Experience managing a team

● Experience working directly with reporters, and a comfort in dealing with local, in-state, and national reporters

● Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize projects while working on a deadline

● Experience pitching press and earned media hits, including the use of in-person and virtual events to drive a campaign’s desired message

● Ability to respond quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment
