Abdul for Senate is seeking talented candidates to work as a ** Deputy Communications Director** for the 2026 election cycle. We are looking for passionate, hardworking individuals who are committed to our mission of electing Abdul El-Sayed our next U.S. Senator.
Role Summary
The Deputy Communications Director for Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate is a senior member of the communications team responsible for helping develop and execute the campaign’s overall communications strategy. Working closely with the Communications Director, campaign leadership, communications consultants, and other departments, the Deputy Communications Director will oversee major earned-media and messaging workstreams, manage communications staff, serve as a campaign spokesperson and ensure the campaign communicates clearly, consistently, and rapidly.
This will be a full time position based in Ann Arbor, MI, although there is flexibility with remote work and a relocation timeline. This position offers compensation in the form of a monthly salary and healthcare benefits.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Execution & Management

Work with the Communications Director, campaign leadership, consultants, and the candidate to execute the campaign’s overall communications and earned-media strategy.

Manage communications workstreams, calendars, deadlines, and approval processes to ensure materials are accurate, timely, and aligned with campaign strategy.

Help develop and execute timely responses that reinforce the candidate’s message and advance the campaign’s strategic objectives.

Build and maintain strong relationships with Michigan, national, political, and issue-area reporters.

Supervise, support, and provide regular feedback to communications staff, including the Press Secretary, Press Assistant, and interns

Coordinate closely with digital, research, policy, political, organizing, and advance teams to maintain consistent messaging across the campaign.

Develop proactive earned-media plans that advance the campaign’s core message and increase the candidate’s visibility with key audiences.

Identify compelling stories, validators, events, policy announcements, and other opportunities that reinforce campaign priorities.

Pitch stories, interviews, opinion pieces, campaign events, and other earned-media opportunities.

Serve as an on-record campaign spokesperson and manage sensitive or high-level media inquiries.

Review and edit press releases, statements, speeches, talking points, briefing materials, newsletters, op-eds, advisories, and other communications products.

Qualifications (Required):

A minimum of 3+ years in communications, press, digital, or campaigns required.

Previous experience supervising staff.

Must have transportation to attend events as needed

Proficiency with Excel and Google Drive

Willingness to work irregular hours including some nights and weekends.

Superior written and verbal communication skills

Ability to learn new skills and take on new challenges, with a desire to learn and a willingness to ask questions

Ability to balance between competing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment while maintaining exceptional organization and attention to detail

Qualifications (Required)

Michigan experience is a significant plus.

Experience working on at least one competitive statewide, congressional, or similarly high-profile political campaign strongly preferred.
