JOB DESCRIPTION

About the Campaign

Sean Ryan for Buffalo is building the team to secure a second term for Buffalo's Mayor. We are looking for a driven, organized, and politically savvy Finance Director to lead our fundraising operation from launch through Election Day. This is a senior role on a lean, high-performing team, and the Finance Director will be central to resourcing a winning campaign.

Position Summary

The Finance Director reports directly to the Campaign Chairs and Mayor and is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising plan for the Mayor's re-election campaign. In addition to leading the campaign's finance program, the Finance Director will regularly staff the Mayor at fundraisers, donor meetings, and political events across Buffalo and Western New York.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, own, and execute the campaign's comprehensive Finance Plan, tracking progress against benchmarks and adjusting strategy as needed.

  • Manage fundraising projections, cash flow, and regular reporting to senior staff.

  • Oversee the call time program, including preparing call sheets, tracking pledges, and managing donor follow-up and acknowledgment.

  • Plan and execute the full events program; staff the Mayor at fundraisers and political events across Buffalo and Western New York.

  • Maintain donor database, expand the donor universe through prospecting, and assist with New York State Board of Elections compliance.

  • Assist with off cycle political tasks including scheduling, administrative work, and communication support.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 cycles of campaign finance experience as a Finance Director, Deputy Finance Director, or Senior Finance Associate.

  • Familiarity with NGP, ActBlue, and Google Drive.

  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ties to Buffalo or Western New York politics strongly preferred.

  • Valid driver's license; willingness to work evenings and weekends.
