About Maria Peterson

Maria Peterson is a first-generation American, a former attorney and small business owner, and

a longtime advocate for working families. As a lawyer she fought for coal miners with black lung

who were denied the benefits they had earned, and her work since has spanned public service,

grassroots organizing, housing, consumer protection, environmental advocacy, and education

equity. A mother of three and grandmother of two, she's deeply rooted in the communities of the

52nd District.

Maria is running on practical, people-first solutions: lowering taxes on the middle class,

expanding affordable housing, investing in mental health and gun safety, and protecting the

environment through smart infrastructure and clean energy. She believes every vote in

Springfield should reflect the values and voices of real people, not special interests. Election

Day is November 3rd.

About the District

The 52nd House District sits on the outer edge of the Chicago metro area and covers parts of

four counties: northwest Cook, southwest Lake, southeast McHenry, and a sliver of Kane. Once

farmland and weekend homes for city dwellers, it's now a predominantly suburban district that

includes Barrington, Wauconda, Algonquin, Cary, and Fox River Grove.

The Role

We're hiring paid canvassers to talk with voters across District 52 through Election Day. This is

direct voter contact work. You'll be at the doors most days, on the phones some evenings, and

helping bring new volunteers into the fold.

• Door to door canvassing with voters in District 52

• Phone banking voters in District 52

• Volunteer engagement, including recruiting volunteers and helping them get comfortable on their first shift

What We're Looking For

• 1 to 2 years of campaign experience

• 1 to 2 years of door to door canvassing

• Comfortable on your feet and outdoors in most weather

• Reliable transportation, since the district spans four counties

• Available evenings and weekends

Plus if you have it:

• Familiarity with VoteBuilder, NGP, and MiniVan

The Details

• Classification: 1099 independent contractor

• Pay: $18 to $20 per hour depending on experience, paid twice monthly

• Hours: 40 per week, through November 3rd

• Start date: as soon as possible

• Reports to the Campaign Manager and Field Organizer

• Based out of the campaign office at 50 Ela St, Barrington, IL 60010
