About Us
People Over Monopolies fights concentrated corporate power by electing leaders who combat corruption and stand up for working families. As a political action committee, we fund candidates who take on monopoly interests. We engage in primary and general elections, backing candidates in state and federal races across the country. Recent wins include powering now-Attorney General Jay Jones to his win in Virginia and ousting the Senate Majority Leader in Maryland with first-time candidate Amar Mukunda.
The Role
The Development Manager will expand the fundraising program at People Over Monopolies, with a focus on donor prospecting, outreach, and events. As the first in-house fundraising hire, the role suits someone with high initiative, a deep understanding of mission, and a collaborative spirit fit for a small and nimble team. The Development Director reports to the Executive Director and works closely with team members in Compliance and Communications.
Job Description
- Execute the PAC's annual finance plan and track progress against quarterly fundraising goals
- Research and build prospect lists in communities identified by the Executive Director and board, identifying new individual donors with the capacity and alignment to give
- Arrange call time for themselves, for the Executive Director and for board members, including preparing call sheets, managing follow-up, and stewarding the CRM database.
- Plan and execute fundraising events, from house parties to receptions, including host committee recruitment, invitations, logistics, and post-event stewardship
- Draft donor-facing materials, including one-pagers, briefing memos, pitch decks, impact reports, and solicitation emails
- Steward existing donors through regular updates, acknowledgments, and engagement opportunities
- Coordinate with our compliance vendor on contribution vetting, FEC and state-level reporting, and adherence to contribution limits and source restrictions
What We're Looking For
- A demonstrated commitment to economic justice and curbing corporate power
- 5–6 years of political fundraising experience on a campaign, PAC, or political nonprofit; or 5–6 years of organizing experience with demonstrated interest in fundraising plus ties to one or more of these communities: technology workers, arts workers, farmers and ranchers, independent pharmacists, independent grocers, antitrust professionals including plaintiff-side lawyers, and healthcare providers including doctors, dentists, and veterinarians; or a combination of the two.
- Experience producing fundraising or organizing events, such as house parties, panels, and summits
- Strong writing skills and the ability to produce polished donor materials quickly and collaboratively
- Working familiarity with federal campaign finance rules, or the ability to learn them quickly
- Experience with NGP VAN, ActBlue, and Action Network preferred
- A fit with our high-agency, high-trust "startup" culture, which offers flexibility and work-life balance while expecting initiative, creativity, and hard work
We are building for the long term. As our programs at People Over Monopolies grow, there is opportunity for this role to expand in scope and seniority.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $85,000-$115,000, commensurate with experience. We provide an additional stipend of $800/month for additional costs including but not limited to health insurance, flexible hours, unlimited PTO with a minimum expectation of 3 weeks (15 days) of paid time off, and coverage of all work-related travel costs.
Location and Schedule
This role involves occasional evening and weekend work for travel, events, and call time. We are a remote team with expectations of occasional travel to DC and other organizing locations around the country. Hybrid work in our DC office one day a week is preferred but not required.
To Apply
Submit a resume and a brief cover letter emphasizing your commitment to our mission and your proven initiative with the subject line "Director of Development." Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with the first round of interviews expected to begin on November 9th.
