The Chief, Marketing and Strategic Communications (CMSC) serves as the League of Women Voters of the United States (LWVUS) Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and is a member of the Executive Team reporting directly to the CEO. The CMSC plays a pivotal role in shaping the public voice and philanthropic strength of the League of Women Voters, a century-strong movement advancing democracy, equity, and civic engagement. In this role, the CMSC is responsible for devising and implementing a bold, integrated strategy for communications, development, marketing, and events across LWVUS (501(c)(4)) and its sister organization, the League of Women Voters Education Fund (501(c)(3)). This position works closely with the CEO and Board to grow the League’s influence, expand its organizational footprint, and deepen its impact.
A visionary and potentially public-facing senior leader and veteran communications and marketing professional, the CMSC leads a multifaceted team focused on raising the League’s visibility, building trust and influence, and generating the financial resources necessary to advance the organization’s mission. The CMSC oversees the Communications (including Events and Marketing) and Development departments, ensuring alignment in messaging, brand positioning, narrative strategy, donor engagement, and marketing execution.
The CMSC serves as the primary architect of the League’s messaging voice, public image, and brand identity, and ensures a unified, values-driven presence across all channels, campaigns, and revenue-generating efforts. This includes leading strategic marketing initiatives, overseeing multi-channel campaigns, and ensuring brand consistency across digital, print, and event platforms. The CMSC also supervises the Director of Events to align the organization's brand and messaging across major League-led events.
This position requires excellent leadership, management, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and a deep understanding of strategic communications, marketing, fundraising, and movement-building. The CMSC must bring vision, a marketing mindset, and a collaborative working style to ensure the League leads with purpose, inspires public action, and remains financially and reputationally strong for the long term.
This is a hybrid position that requires frequent attendance at events in the DC area and regular visits to the DC Headquarters, at least twice a week.
The salary for this position $200,000 annually.
