Field Director

Employee | 20 hours per week

Northeast Baltimore County, Maryland

About the campaign

Ly Xīnzhèn Brown is a democratic socialist and longtime disability justice organizer running against two of Maryland’s most vulnerable Republican incumbents.

We’re fighting for health justice, labor justice, climate justice, and housing justice, and we take our commitment to labor seriously — our campaign has already signed a card check agreement with the Campaign Workers Guild committing to voluntarily recognize a staff union.

About the role

As Field Director, you’ll build and run the program that wins this race on the ground. You’ll design our voter contact and grassroots organizing strategy, recruit and train volunteers, knock doors, and build the relationships across District 7A we need to win. You’ll own the field program end to end, and you’ll see your work reflected directly in how many voters we reach.

Day to day, you’ll:

  • Design and run the campaign’s overall field strategy and voter contact program.

  • Build a door-to-door canvassing operation — turf cutting, universe creation, and volunteer deployment in NGP VAN/VoteBuilder.

  • Set up phone banks and write the scripts that go with them.

  • Recruit, train, and lead volunteers for canvasses, phone banks, and events.

  • Organize meet-and-greets, house parties, and other grassroots events across the district.

  • Track field data and keep the organizing calendar on schedule.

You’ll also represent Ly Xīnzhèn at community events and parades, help with hiring as we grow, and pitch in on campaign operations as the race demands.

About you

You care deeply about grassroots organizing, and about at least one of the campaign’s priorities. You’re organized, self-motivated, and able to juggle competing priorities without losing the details. You communicate well with volunteers, community members, and teammates alike, and you’re comfortable working both on your own and as part of a team.

This is a preferred list, not a checklist — if you’re strong on some of these and eager on the rest, apply:

  • At least one full campaign cycle of political or community organizing, ideally in a field role.

  • Experience organizing volunteers and running voter outreach programs.

  • Familiarity with NGP VAN/VoteBuilder, including turf cutting and list management.

  • Comfort working long, irregular hours within a 20-hour week — evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

You’ll need a reliable way to get around District 7A, a largely rural district. A driver’s license and your own vehicle help, but any dependable means of covering the district works.
