Description

The Michigan Democratic Party’s Director of Data, Analytics, and Technology leads the Party’s statewide data and technology work, overseeing voter data systems, analytics, and organizing tools to support Democratic staff and partners across Michigan. This role sets direction for the data team, ensures responsible stewardship of the voter file, and works with leadership to make sure data systems support the Party’s goals.

The Director of Data, Analytics, and Technology is a member of IBEW Local 1106.

Key Responsibilities & Characteristics

  • Leadership, Management & Oversight
    • Set priorities and direction for the Party’s data and technology work.
    • Lead and support data staff, including setting goals, managing workload, and building team capacity.
    • Provide oversight of VAN/Votebuilder management, data governance practices, and internal standards.
    • Serve as the primary data advisor to Party leadership.
  • Data Acquisition, Analysis & Tools
    • Oversee acquisition and maintenance of the statewide voter file and related datasets.
    • Ensure accurate and timely execution of election-cycle data processes.
    • Guide the Party’s use of VAN/VoteBuilder and other data and technology tools.
    • Provide analysis, reporting, and targeting support to inform organizing and outreach efforts.
  • Partner Support and Relationships
    • Serve as the main point of contact for Party staff and Democratic partners seeking data access or support.
    • Work with the DNC to ensure alignment on national data standards and best practices
    • Support county parties, campaigns, and allied organizations in using voter data effectively.
    • Help ensure consistent data standards and practices across the Party’s partner network.

Qualifications

  • Experience in political, campaign, nonprofit, or advocacy data work.
  • Experience managing staff or major cross-team projects.
  • Strong familiarity with VAN/VoteBuilder and voter file oversight.
  • Experience working with campaign or organizing technology tools.
  • Proficiency with SQL. Experience with Python or other programming languages a plus.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets and communicate findings clearly.
  • Commitment to electing Democrats and building an inclusive organization.
