Description

The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking Community Organizing Fellows for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign’s Organizing Program. The Organizing Program works to build support for Democrats by talking to voters at community events, engaging with community groups, and conducting direct voter contact (DVC) activities. The Organizing Fellowship is a part-time, experiential fellowship designed for people who want to build practical skills in organizing through structured training, mentorship, and supervised project work as part of a statewide, data-driven program.

Organizing Fellows should be passionate, hardworking individuals looking to learn from and be a part of one of the most high-profile races in the nation in 2026. Fellows will be paired with an Organizing staff mentor and will gain exposure to multiple core program areas, including community engagement, capacity-building, and talking to voters in your community.

What You’ll Learn and Experience

As a Campus Organizing Fellow, you will gain experience in:

  • Organizing & Relationship Building
  • Learn how to build trust with voters, organizations, and local stakeholders while representing a statewide campaign in your community across Michigan.
  • Campaign Field Operations
  • Gain hands-on experience executing outreach programs, staffing events, supporting voter education efforts, and helping run high-visibility campaign activities.
  • Professional Campaign Skills
  • Develop skills in data entry, reporting, event coordination, time management, and collaborative team workflows using professional campaign tools.
  • Leadership & Team Development
  • Participate in training, staff meetings, and mentorship opportunities designed to prepare fellows for future leadership roles in political organizing.
  • Strategic Exposure
  • Learn how campaigns connect local engagement work to broader electoral strategy and turnout goals.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Passion for progressive values and electing Democrats up and down the ballot
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and employ creative problem solving
  • Good communication skills and relationship building
  • Willingness to work in a field office, at events, and doing direct voter contact work
  • Flexible, adaptable, and solutions-oriented.
  • Must have access to a cell phone and laptop or computer.

Salary, Benefits, and Logistics

Hours: 15 hours per week, flexible around schedule. Evenings and weekends may be required.

Location: Community fellows will be based in communities across Michigan, with an emphasis on Detroit, Dearborn, Grand Rapids, Pontiac and Flint.

Classification: Part time, temporary, non-exempt hourly

Hourly: $15/hour

Reports to: Organizer or Regional Organizing Director
