About the Opportunity
The Michigan Democratic Party is seeking a Voter Access Hotline Manager to join our team for the 2026 Coordinated Campaign. Michigan will be one of the most closely-watched states during the 2026 Midterm election cycle, and the Voter Access Department will play a critical role in ensuring that every eligible voter is able to cast a ballot that will count and that all legally cast ballots are counted.
The Voter Access Hotline Manager will be in charge of operating the Michigan Democrats’ Voter Assistance Hotline, which receives calls from voters with questions about voting and those experiencing voting issues. The Hotline Manager will oversee all hotline operations, staff, and hundreds of volunteers. The Voter Access Hotline Manager will play a crucial role in ensuring that every eligible voter’s voice is heard in the 2026 election.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work with the Voter Access Director and the Voter Access Team to implement and support voter protection programming as needed.
- Plan and execute all aspects of hotline programming, including developing volunteer pipelines for recruitment, training, shifting, managing, and providing feedback to volunteers.
- Develop training materials and establish training protocols for hotline volunteers.
- Provide summaries of voting issues identified during hotline calls and escalate high priority issues in a timely manner with appropriate notice to the Voter Access Director.
- Ensure appropriate hotline staffing for anticipated call volume.
- Oversee hotline technology and implement processes to ensure volunteer and staff support as needed.
- Maintain strong data practices, ensuring that all reports are timely and accurate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications
- 1-2 years of voter protection or campaign/community organizing experience.
- Previous experience managing paid staff or volunteers
- Ability to learn the details of Michigan Election Law and translate that information into simple and actionable guidance for volunteers and voters.
- Ability to develop processes and workflows that support volunteer engagement and carry volunteers from recruitment to training to shift completion.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with people over the phone or computer to engage them with the campaign.
- Demonstrated ability to work toward and achieve ambitious, metric-driven goals.
- Capacity and willingness to work long hours during peak season, rolling up your sleeves and getting the work done, and a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to the work.
- Exceptional organizational and strong time-management skills.
- Comfortable working with technology including Dialpad, SMS, and online platforms.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing voting rights and familiarity with Michigan elections a plus.
- Familiarity with VAN/Votebuilder and Google suite a plus.
Compensation and Location
The salary is $5,500 per month. Applicants must live in or be willing to relocate to Michigan. This position includes a full benefits package of health, vision, and dental insurance coverage.
