Report to: Faith in Justice Director
Job Type: Full Time
Compensation: $50,000 annually, paid bi-weekly
POSITION SUMMARY
Michigan United is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator to actively strengthen its base within faith institutions and community groups, and to build strategic connections between those communities and Michigan United through the development of local, state, and federal campaigns.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Build and maintain relationships with affected institutions through one-on-one meetings and listening sessions.
- Assist in planning and facilitating events that engage institutions and community leaders across various issues.
- Assist clergy organizers in identifying and recruiting leaders to form core leadership teams, specifically within congregations affected by systemic barriers. Support the development of a consistent core team of at least five leaders from these institutions.
- Assist in planning and facilitating monthly core team meetings to ensure continued engagement and progress.
- Assist in coordinating press events and prepare leaders to communicate their messages effectively in the media.
- Support fundraising efforts through membership building and securing donations.
- Stay informed on issues relevant to affected communities, the political landscape, and other factors that impact Michigan United’s mission, goals, and objectives.
- Participate in organizational training to enhance organizing and leadership skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Ability to handle uncomfortable situations and work in different cultural/ community settings.
- Serious about achieving qualitative and quantitative goals.
- Proficient writing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team.
- Have access to reliable transportation for in-state travel.
- Ability to learn Google productivity tools (e.g., Google Docs, Gmail, Google Calendar).
- Knowledgeable in remote communications.
BENEFITS
- Health Insurance and a $1,200/year Health Savings Account or monthly Health insurance stipend are available after 90 days of employment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Employees can work in a hybrid format but must be based in the State of Michigan.
- Team members are located throughout the state, with the headquarters in Detroit.
- There will be in-person events, meetings, and activities.
- The standard work schedule is business hours with flexibility. Evenings and weekends are occasionally required.
- Periodic in-state travel, with intermittent out-of-state travel, will be necessary.
