Location: Southeast Michigan
Salary: $50,000
POSITION SUMMARY
Michigan United is seeking a Faith in Justice Organizer to organize constituents in households of faith.
You will be tasked with supporting leaders and/or congregations by way of trainings, campaign development, and strategic planning, that would fully engage various faiths in social justice. When doing this work, it is essential to apply an in-depth racial and gender lens. Applicants who have been justice-involved are encouraged to apply.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Recruit new Households of Faith into Michigan United
- Represent the department at coalition meetings
- Train MU members to understand the political landscape around campaign issues
- Train MU leaders in roles applicable to issue organizing and campaign development
- Organizing meetings with elected officials to engage Faith members
- Work closely with Michigan United organizing staff and leaders to develop, refine, and further the goals of all of the campaigns
- Organize press conferences that earn media attention
- Building through digital organizing
- Understanding of regional and local issues in their communities
- Build and nurture relationships with other Households of Faith around social justice work
- Stay current on issues vital to affected communities, the political landscape, and other matters that affect the ability of Michigan United to fulfill its mission, goals, and objectives
- Participate in organizational trainings to expand your organizing and leadership skills
- Turn-out for events
- Fundraising via membership building and donations
- Expand relational organizing in Faith communities
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficiency in Google productivity tools (ie, Google Docs, Gmail, Google Calendar)
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends if necessary
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Proficient writing skills
- Able to work independently and as well as part of a team
- Knowledgeable in remote communications
- Serious about achieving qualitative and quantitative goals
- Have reliable transportation to and from in-person events and meetings
BENEFITS:
- Health insurance and a $1,200/year Health Savings Account (HSA) after 90 days, or a monthly insurance stipend
- IRA eligibility after earning $5,000 in the preceding two-year period
- Internet stipend: $34.62 per pay period; Phone stipend: $23.08 per pay period
- 15 days PTO in years 1–2, increasing with seniority; subject to blackout around elections
- Paid sick time and a generous paid holiday policy

- Two-month paid sabbatical after four years of full-time service

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Faith in Justice Organizers can be hybrid within the State of Michigan but must be based in the State of Michigan. Team members are located throughout the state, with our headquarters in Detroit. There will be in-person events, meetings, and activities. Our work schedule is standard business hours with flexibility. Evenings and weekends are occasionally required. There will be occasional travel around the state, with occasional out-of-state travel.
