About the Minnesota DFL Party
Democrats across the country have looked to the Minnesota DFL Party as a model for how to win elections and improve people’s lives. For more than eighty years, the Minnesota DFL has worked tirelessly to enact progressive policies and provide a platform for those who need it most. We believe that every Minnesotan has a right to stable employment with fair wages, to a proper education, to raise and provide for a family, to accessible and affordable health care, to live in safe communities, and to retire with dignity and security.
Position Overview
The Minnesota DFL is hiring part-time Organizing Fellows. Fellows will be an integral part of executing the campaign’s organizing operation as we work to elect DFLers up and down the ticket. You will be learning and executing foundational organizing skills, such as canvassing, phone banking, volunteer recruitment, and volunteer management and will have direction from elected officials.
Term of Employment: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Fellows must commit to a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks. Fellows can choose to continue into the fall/through the election. Position is part-time, with a minimum of 10 hours/week and maximum of 15 hours/week.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Field Organizers to implement a direct voter contact program to increase turn out and support for DFLers.
- Canvass, phone bank, text and engage online with voters to recruit for events and identify support —meeting weekly metric goals.
- Recruit and train volunteers to ensure statewide campaign presence
- Activate volunteer base for direct voter contact actions
- Support campaign activities at community events, parades, forums, and beyond
- Additional duties as assigned by Field Organizers, Organizing Director, or Campaign Manager.
Who You Are
You are someone who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments and brings a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to your work. You believe in the DFL’s values and are excited to contribute your skills to making change in Minnesota.
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Dedication to protection of democracy and equal treatment under the law through electoral organizing.
- Sees diversity as an asset, and equity and inclusion are core values
- Must be a self-starter, and be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to work afternoons, evenings, and occasionally weekends (this role is not a 9-5)
Additional qualifications that will help you succeed in this role:
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Experience overseeing or supervising volunteers
- Fluency in Spanish, Somali, or Hmong is appreciated.
Don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway. Studies show that women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and members of other underrepresented communities often hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. At the DFL, we are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of Minnesota — including people of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds. We believe our party and our work are stronger when everyone is included and empowered.
