Minnesota must ensure that elections are free, fair, and equitable. To support Democrats up and down the ballot, the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party is hiring full-time Voter Protection Associates for the 2026 cycle. The associates will assist the Voter Protection Director (VPD) with disseminating high-quality voting information to the public and campaign teams; building relationships with election stakeholders; recruiting and deploying voter protection volunteers; triaging voting-related problems; and serving as a resource for legal, legislative and strategic issues.

Voter Protection Associates will report to the Voter Protection Director. This position will be physically based in DFL HQ in St. Paul. We will be accepting applications on a rolling basis, with a priority for those that apply by July 1st. This position will start in July and conclude on November 13th, 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Create, implement, and execute various Voter Protection programs including, but not limited to, Poll Challengers, Rides to the Polls, Hotline, and more
  • Help implement a comprehensive voter protection plan to identify and triage problems with vote-by-mail, early in-person voting, and Election Day voting
  • Develop, produce, and disseminate complete, accessible, and accurate voting information
  • Help build a structure to recruit, train, manage, and serve as a resource for hundreds of volunteers, hotline staffers, boiler room personnel, county liaisons, and other volunteers during the early vote period and Election Day
  • Utilize rigorous standards for data collection in NGP/VAN and LBJ
  • Build relationships with party leadership, campaigns, and other stakeholders
  • Support other DFL departments by fielding questions, creating training materials, etc.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the VPD, Coordinated Campaign Director, Executive Director, or DFL Chair

Requirements:

  • Excellent research, written, and oral communication skills; comfort with public presentations
  • Excellent project management, time management, and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Experience with or willingness to learn to manage large groups
  • Prior political organizing or campaign experience, particularly experience in voter protection or field operations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Google Suite products
  • A strong commitment to advancing the DFL agenda, strengthening the DFL Party, and winning elections for DFL candidates.

Preferred but not required:

  • Minnesota experience or ties to the state
  • Volunteer management experience
  • Knowledge and experience using Votebuilder (VAN)

Compensation: This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement between the Minnesota DFL Party and IBEW Local 292. Compensation is $2,172.50/ bi-weekly. This position cannot exceed 50 hours a week, with some nights and weekends required. Staff receive a competitive benefits package including health care and dental.
