Position Overview
The Minnesota DFL Party seeks a Deputy Director of Party Affairs. This role is a key part of the Party Affairs Department, which is focused on supporting the essential functions and development of our local party units and governing committees statewide. We are looking for someone who can organize and present large amounts of information in an accessible way and can work with a wide variety of people, from experienced activists to folks just getting started with the party.
Applicants must be excited to learn and develop skillsets relating to the rules and processes outlined in our party documents, as well as to help our local party leaders navigate those processes and organize in their communities.
This role reports to the Party Affairs Director. Office hours are 9AM to 5PM, Monday through Friday, however this department works primarily with volunteers and as such requires occasional hours outside of the traditional 9-5. Applicants must have the ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours on occasion to support our events, trainings, and committees.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate member records for committees and governing bodies statewide
- Develop strong communication and relationships with party activists and local leaders
- Take a key role in the planning and execution of large events, including: State Central Committee and State Executive Committee meetings, Precinct Caucuses, State Convention, National Convention, etc. This includes finding venues, promotion, registration, developing the agenda, and following up on business items.
- Provide support to DFL committees such as the Constitution, Bylaws, and Rules Committee, Party Affairs Committee, Outreach & Inclusion Committee, and Platform & Issues Committee
- Support party outreach efforts by working with our Community Caucuses and coordinating our Outreach Grant program
- Effectively delegate and support the development of our interns in coordination with the Party Affairs Director
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Party Affairs Director, Political Director, DFL Executive Director, or Chair.
Required Skills & Qualifications
We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Strong practical experience in DFL politics and organizing
- Demonstrated commitment to electing DFL candidates up and down the ballot
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong skills in Google Suite and spreadsheets
- Reputation as an upbeat self-starter with a solutions focused approach
- Stellar personal organization skills and attention to detail
- Customer service experience
- A properly insured vehicle for travel around the state as necessary
